First Becker order, BK9 quick question

Hi Beckerheads, I have been researching a nice chopper to take camping and have some occasional batonning fun. I know an axe or hatchet would be better and I have read a lot of threads about that debate. But this will be for personal enjoyment.

So I want a chopper that can take some batonning.

I am looking at the Bk9.

Few questions before the order

1) I saw that the Bk13 would fit in the Bk9 sheath. A lot of the threads were a few years old that I looked at so I wanted to know if this was still true and how the sheath is now if it has changed.

2) I also saw people being able to fit the Bk11 with some effort and if that is still the case I might have to go ahead and order that with it too.

Here is a link to the thread that I found with the modified sheath to fit the Bk11 incase anyone else reads this and is interested as well

If this is still possible that would close the deal for me.

Thanks for all info and suggestions:)

I don't see why it wouldn't work but the BK13 is a mighty handy little knife. The two together should handle just about anything.

It is possible. The 11 will also fit in the sheath for the 4 and 5.

The easiest way to do this is to get a wooden spoon that spans a pot, and make sure the 11 won't touch the bottom of said pot when the spoon is threaded through a hole in the handle.

Boil water in the pot and suspend the 11 in the water taking care not to rest it on the bottom of the pot since the heat transferred from the pot to the kmife can ruin the temper, but the water to the knife will not.

Let the knife warm up a bit then while wearing a pot holder mit take it out of the water and off of the spoon. Insert the knife into the sheath using the heated blade to soften the "T" shaped plastic insert to fit the 11.

Close the strap over the bottle opener to make sure you have clearance and let it cool with the strap closed. Once fully cooled, if you would like, you can put a small hole in the strap to "lock" the 11 in place. Use another knife and cut a small line in the webbing, then melt the frayed ends around the hook on the bottle opener with the spine side (top of the handle) on the outside of the strap. (To melt the frayed strands, just hit them with a bic lighter)

This will give you a spot for an 11, with a solid, no rattle feel as well as having a retaining strap that will not pull off of the 11 with a lateral pull. The only way to free the 11 would be to purposely undo the strap.

Thank you very much for the quick answers. I will have to look at the Bk11 vs 13 a little more before I order. I have an Izula and the handle is a bit short for me so I will use that to compare against the specs of the two. Thanks for your time

LOL NJBillK: when I first started reading this, I thought "here we go - hazing the new guy" - but this was actually quite a helpful little tutorial. [emoji1]

Thanks for going easy on the new guy lol. We're not know to be the nicest in NJ haha:p

I see that the Izula is about half inch shorter then the Bk11. Has anyone tried to fit an Izula in a Bk9 Sheath?

Here you go... I hope this helps your conundrum a bit.

I have the 13 in my 9's sheath. Perfect fit and perfect companion. As for the izula, I'm sure it would work using the same method mentioned by NJB. However, locking it in may be a little tricky

Hey, I resemble that remark!

How you doin'?
You talkin' to me?
I'm physically talkin' to you; look at me when I physically talk to you!

NJBillK, careful or you might give the rest of us a good name.

Someone has to try to redeem this state...

Haha
