Hey guys, on a fixed blade kick and thinking about checking out Becker. I like the overall look of the BK5, but am not sure if I should try something smaller(and cheaper) like a Becker Necker first. I am also looking at ESEE, and was curious how Becker's warranty compares. Thanks guys!

You would like the BK15 its a little cheaper. As for the warranty Esee is better on paper, but I have never heard of anyone getting turned down by Ka-Bar for warranty. Most likely you will never need the warranty anyway.

ESEE will not refuse a refund/replacement (their choice), I have heard of times when Kabar refused to replace a blade that had been abused for no good reason.

that said, the BK5 (and it's little brother the BK15) is a great kitchen knife that will survive duty in the woods.
The BK16 is an excellent small/medium belt knife - I sold my ESEE4 after getting a 16.
the 11, 14, and 24 do well as neckers or drop in your pocket knives. They are very comparable to the ESEE Izula and izzy 2.

Both companies make an excellent product with similar steel performance (toughness, edge retention, ease of resharpening) The price differences between models boils down to ESEE using micarta for their handles, which costs more than injection molded glass filled nylon.
If your prime consideration is price, go Becker. If not, buy the ones that fit your hand better. (BK16 & ESEE Junglas!) ;)

Not sure what your hobbies are, but the BK9 is good for everything. If you hafta go smaller, Bk16 or BK14. Of course all of them are great.

From a guy who recently got into Becker's---- started with a bk14, then got a bk2, then a remora (bk13) and have a bk16 on the way(sold my Esee 3 to get this). Another positive about becker is the ability to customize and make it personal. I stripped my Becker's and put stainless steel hardware on em. Plenty of aftermarket custom handles available as well. Becker blades are much more stout IMO as well.

(Bk16 missing as its in the mail!)

Also, once you get your first becker do yourself a favor and have a quality kydex sheath made for it! 710 custom sheaths (making 3 sheaths for me currently) and azwelke (made my bk14 sheath) are two i would recommend.....

I kind of want to buy an Eskabar, grind the spine into more of a persian, put a wooden handle on it and a leather sheath. Decisions decisions..

I'd say go for your first instinct the BK5. I love mine and use is almost every other day. If you want to go slightly smaller the BK15 is a great second choice. Regardless you should get a BK11 as well, especially if your a beer drinker ;)

Here is my 15/5:

Depends on your wants, needs, and budget. My Becker plunge was a BK2 and BK9 at the same time. Since then I have gotten two 14s a BK16 is on the way and I'm gonna order a bk10 as soon as they're available. I might grab a 7 down the road but I don't often find use for a 7" blade.

Thanks guys. I think I want to start with a 14 or 11, but I'm not sure which makes a better EDC fixed blade. I like the bottle-opener on the 11, but I've heard it's kind of uncomfortable. What do you guys think?

BK14 has the better grip for MY hand. I've got large sized hands (XL in most gloves). This is how it usually goes: BK11 is a 3 finger grip knife, BK14 is a four finger grip. I've found this to be true for me. I'd go for a BK14 (or a BK24) if I had to choose between the two...

I bought an 11 for starters (Great little knife) and now The King is
on his way home! Don't think you can go wrong with any of the Becker
line up..

I have two 14's and I love them, one with a paracord wrap and that other with Ka-Bar scales. My friend prefers the 11 though.
