Just ordered myself a BK11 after choosing it over the Izula.

I love KaBar and I love the BK11!

This will be my hiking knife, so I was looking for something beefy but light! I think it'll be a perfect tool for the trail!

I plan on stripping the paint off the blade portion of the knife and making it nice and shiny! From what I've read, all I have to do is use some paint stripper and polish it with sand paper. Seems easy enough for me. I think the bare metal on the blade will make it easier to spot if I drop it in on the ground in some brush as opposed to the blackened finish.

Thanks for all the info around here!!

A side note, is there anywhere you can send knives to get them powder coated or whatever people do to get those colored finishes on them? I like how the izulas come in custom colors, I was wondering if I could somehow pick my own for my BK11

Welcome to the madness! Soon you'll find yourself getting a bk2 and waiting for a tweener (bk17 for me).

just ordered my bk17....you can get some duracoat and do it yourself any color you want

Congrats on a fine blade. I just finished stripping and sanding mine.

Welcome, I need to get me an 11 at some point. I love my 14 and would like to see how the two compare. Be sure to post some pictures when you can, we love pictures. Congrats on your new knife.

yeah, there's a few places that coat stuff... duracoat or cerakote or stuff... uparmored is one of them.

with some of the coatings, you can do it youself, just need an oven and a cookie tray?

considering that myself, but they don't have the color i want, so i might just go ahead and use a good epoxy based spray paint. bonus: cheap, easy to redo...

Sweet. I think I am going to strip it up til the handle.

To polish the blade, I plan on using sand paper from course down to extra fine. Then, I might hit it with some steel wool. Is this the correct technique? I did this on a stainless steel blade and it was kind of a pain to get it looking smooth and shining.

As for handles, where do you guys get yours aside from the micarta?

To add, should I force a patina to prevent rusting?
