it came in the mail. and i have to say i m so stoked on the knife!!! it makes me feel funny when i hold it, and i never want to let it go... i considered sleeping with it, but figured it could rest next to me on the night stand (not to mention my wife not letting me).lol. for me the handle seems a bit slick. so i want to work on that a bit. maybe a file job? beings that im new to the forums and brand new to becker land i thought i would share with you first about my new knife. so in to some questions.

1. i saw the list of handle mods and im going to work with a file? im on a super tight budget and if i screw it up im stuck with it. any suggestions as to what i should do? is there a way to order the standard scales if i do mess it up?

2. if i put some inserts between the scales that are thin will i need new screws? if so what size?

3. what are the top priority mods that i should do?

your feed back is much appreciated, as i am new to this land of wonders and pure Ecstasy that is Beckerland.

1- i'd just go with some skateboard tape just to be safe.
2.You shouldn't need new screws, no.
3- Strip it!
Welcome to the asylum.

Stippling with a soldering iron is cheap and easy fix for the factory grivory.....just practice on the inside first, and dont make heavy stipples....the Wasatchdan ''woodpecker taps'' is what u wanna go for.

I would suggest stripping it......but then I dont like black blades LOL

Before u do anything just take it out and beat the crap out of it, get a feel for it and what u want to change.

1. I thought the grivory a bit slick myself, but it's made that way so there's virtually no hot spots. Some stipple the grivory with a soldering iron for grip.

2. You want liners for a BK2? You must have giant hands.

3. No mods needed really. All up to you. No hurry.

1. Just take some sand paper and rough it up if it's too slick for you, that's what I did, but I plan on upgrading jeancarta at somepoint.

2. I doubt you'll need new screws for fairly thin liners, but if you do, upgrade to stainless hardware.

3. Beyond ergonomics, most of the mods you can do are for the blade, you can convex it, you can add jimping, you can Clich (antique) it, you can drop some PCB on it, you can Warriorize (clip) it, you can Caminize (make it look like a Habillis) it, and millions of other possible mods, but don't do any of that until you know you want to.

2. You want liners for a BK2? You must have giant hands.

I'm thinking about liners for my 2....

the simplest, cheapest, and most-reversible handle mod is to roll a section of bicycle inner tube over the handle. It's also incredibly effective, and doesn't look terrible. PLEASE leave it in the sheath while you do this. a small MTB tube is what I'd use.

CTanner touts the Wilson Tennis Racket Wrap very highly. I think that's what I'll try on my 4,7,&9. The micarta on my 2 is fantastic...but not cheap.
Like the others have said, use it before you mod it. The BK-2 is a user knife before all else. IMHO

As Jonny said before, tennis racket wrap/sports tape is awesome! I've tried it over inner tube and its much much better. Simple, cheap and non permanent mod.

As oXide said before, you can caminise (LOL) your BK2 and end up with something like this...

But I wouldn’t recommend doing that

We need to see pics of this new knife of yours. Quality control and such.

Steps for New Becker Owners

New Sheath
Handle (stippling, tube/tape, liners, micarta, etc)
Stripping the Blade
Jimping - Firesteel Notch
Buy a new Becker and repeat

Just use that thing and see what you like and what you would like to change. I haven't changed my 2 much, just got a new sheath and am waiting for the coating to get a little more worn before I will strip it. Once it's stripped I think I will add some jimping. I was sure I was going to stipple the grivory, but it has grown on me. I actually like the grivory, but micarta is difientely next on my upgrade list. Lots of cool mods around here to inspire you.

Welcome to the fire. Pull up a log and set a spell. Lots of good people here and lots to learn.

Welcome to the club.

Like others have said, go use it and then see what you want to change.

If you mess up the stock Grivory, most of us have a bunch of extras from all the mods that have been done.

Someone will send you another set. (not me of course :D J/K - let me know if you need a set.)

Now go beat the snot out of it and PICS !!!

I have to agree with some others here. Before you mod it, go out and use the hell outta it, that way you will know what is "missing" for you personally.
Overall, the BK2 covers most of the bases...so not much will be lacking.
If you want, you can strip it. I am a huge coating hater...so I would do this right off the bat.
