I shared this in CRK forum. Thought you would enjoy.
This knife is alot of fun and might be the first fixed blade I have ever purchased. I always had hand me downs.

B] In the spirit of the wonderful threads posted by the Kidcongo. I felt motivated today to build a nice pit for the family. Today I built a nice little in ground fire pit in the back yard. Steel bowl over 6 inches of 1 1/2 all around. And finished with a 6 Inch wall. I borrowed some stones from the front wall. I dont think anybody will notice. I have a nice great I am making to go over it for cooking. I am really excited to use it.

I did this with my pal Joe. And my new Toy from Mark G. This sweet BK 16. It really is a great little bush knife. Little under five inch blade. Grivory handles are fine for what I payed. I will do some in a few weeks.
When I left the quarry the nice couple that own it did not charge me a dollar for everything I loaded up. The favor will be returned.

Most of them were taken after the building of the pit. The camera was dead. Just had to cut some sod that we pulled up to fit around the wall and plant a little seed. Broke most the stuff by hand because there is so much out back from the Oak trees out front. 3 about 80 feet tall, about as old as the house 1890. They may be larger. The branches dont even start until the 3rd floor.

Used the Ti lock for all branch work and slicing 3/8 and under as well as the pine and cardboard to start it. I used the BK for hacking . I will say its a heck of a slicer, but the coating is grabby and hard to keep clean. However.

SUPER TOUGH>
I used it for chopping, slicing and even set up a little target. I can throw it really well at about 7 feet and ok at about 14. I like having the skill and it does not do any damage.

Im pretty tired. I took the night off and decided to have a fire instead. Pretty happy about that.[/B]

Ignition Engage!

Very cool coating. Not sure what it is.
I do know the 1095 steel was thrashed on and I had no chipping on the 56-58 heat treat. It held up well. But I used the sharpmaker to bring it back after. Took about 5 minutes with that and the strop.

Nice post, good choice for your first Becker. The 16 is my favorite knife hands down.

Congrats on the new steel. Becker blades are awesome.

Nothing better than a user.

Becker knives getting used, surely this warms the heart of Uncle Ethan!

Thank you for sharing.

Lol. It sure puts a smile on my face. This thing is really fun. I'm thinking pine cone resin handles . Then again micarta loves a fixed blade.

Awesome post! Congrats on the new steel! Always great to see a nice dirty user! It will surely serve you well.

So. Can anyone point me to an aftermarket sheath and handle options. I will search again. Just asking the regulars.

Very cool. It's nice to see pics of them being used. We did a fire pit in our backyard and I still wonder why we didn't do it sooner.

Totally. I waited two seasons all ready. Now that my girls are going on 3 and 4. We are able to do so much more as a family. . Sitting back and just doing nothing but carving a stick near the fire. Priceless.
How about those aftermarket handklez and sheaths.

Great pictures! a hell of a user! Stick around and show us all the mods you do!

Many of us strip the coatings and force a patina. Its not hard to keep the 1095 rust free.

If you don't want to strip it, you can always smooth it down with some sand paper. I started with 600 grit to get to the bottom of the coating dimples, then I went to 1k then 2k. The coating polishes up nicely, but if you use it for any heavy cutting it will scratch it again :)

Great first post here in the BK&T sub. The 16's just an easy to use and abuse uh, use hard kinda knife. That plus fire with the family equals a little nirvana. As for scales and sheaths, the stock Ka-Bar Micarta is great for heavy use, and it'll fit perfectly into any aftermarket Kydex. JD fro The710customSheaths makes some great stuff (also makes the Ka-Bar aftermarket accessory sheaths) and Al from azwelke sheaths also are fantastic. I've got a couple of both, but then again I tend to like plastic sheaths. For leather, I've heard tell that Nick at NixCustoms (a Beckerhead here) makes some fine stuff as well. Be sure to stick around and show us what you end up with.

Welcome BB......

Thanks for the kind words about your Sixteen...... I do love to see the "kids" at work and play..... I am glad to see this one has found a good home.....

Not fifteen minutes ago I left a neighbors fire and am thinking about the pit in the back for later..... Gonna be a clear, chilly night here.... Good stars on tap for certain.......Perfect....

Thanks for the post and pix....... I hope you are here often......

Ethan.....

P.S. .... I like the factory Micarta, and our friend Julio, the 710, does nice Kydex....,Dex Withers, Coyle outdoors is a good source for sheaths and Parkerising..... I have heard good things about Azwelke too....e

Not an hour after I posted there was a knock on the door and two friends were outside begging for brew..... Got some cheese and wurst and brewskis, put a few sticks in the pit, lit her up and a great couple of hours followed..... Great stars and a lovely blaze and convivial companions are hard to beat.....

I am with great pleasure blaming a really fine evening all on you for getting the idea in my head.....Will and Landon and Will's two Short Hairs, Chester and Hyde send their heartfelt thanks as well.....The dogs did truly love the summer sausage and cheddar......

All best...

Ethan

Ethan. Its an amazing tool for sure. Just the perfect size to tote around.
It sounds like you had a heck of a time. A good out door fire can be cleansing. We just got about 6 inches of snow. In already have the pit set to lite, but that's a lot of snow. Its my Friday evening so time to relax.
Thanks guys. I will have plenty of other photos as long as I remember to keep it charged.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Looking forward to customizing my set up.
