i am looking at buying my first real khukuri and i cannot decide between the kumar kobra and the sirupati. i am 6'2" which is why i would like the 25" model. i would like to know how much more durable the siurpati is compared to the kobra, and how they both compare in handling. if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated!

Welcome owendwk!

The sirupate will be a little heavier and fatter bladed than the Kobra. The Kobra will be a bit more agile.
The sirupate would be slightly more durable. Durability should not be a issue for either since neither is warranted for chopping wood/hard materials.

thank you for your input! that is exactly what i needed to hear! i think i have decided on the kobra, i like the styling a little better. i also wanted to ask if there was any way to get a d-guard added to my khukuri, or who i should talk to about that

We would not modify an already made piece, but you could make a special order for one by emailing Auntie Yangdu at himimp@aol.com to see if the project is something that is feasable and for pricing.
Or you could post in the knifemakers market in the exchange here at BFc, under the services wanted heading, to see if there are any craftsmen who would be willing to take on such a job.

phenomenal! thank you for your help! i will definitely email her and hopefully i can get this done

Welcome to the forum:) The 25" Kobra is probably going to be a bit of a beast as it is. Mine is from much older stock, but what I have seen is that lighter/faster khuks are ridiculously lightweight until you get to the 25" versions. I've seen 15" Kobras come in at sub 14oz. I have a perfect 20.5" 20.5oz Kobra next to my bed. However, my 25" Kobra is a whopping 2lbs. Not heavy by any real stretch, but it jumped from an oz an inch to 1.3ish oz per inch. I don't use my 25" Kobra much, as I think it was intended to cleave through Calvary chainmail :D

Really cool blade though. Sharp and bloodthisty enough that its one of the few long khuks that gets locked in the gun cabinet for safety:eek:...and I don't mean safety for IT;)

I would say Sirupate.

I have two 25" Sirus and they are very different. One is a 7/16" spined beast at almost 3lbs and the other is a 5/16" agile blade that weighs much less.

Saw a video with a 30" Kobra (by HI) being used to split wood (which is not covered by the warranty for this model):

this is the style of guard i want added on to it, i think a 25" kobra would look killer mounted to one of these

That is awesome, I think I've seen that one before. Bura right?

I would love one of those on a 20-25 Siru.

yeah this one is a bura, its so nice, ive been drooling over it all day,
i cant wait to hear back from yangdu to see if its possible!
i was thinking that this stlye in polished steel instead of the brass with black horn would really set it off

Good call on the horn, but I would stick with brass. Just my personal preference.

I think Lacchu was Bura's helper. Between him and Rajkumar I bet they can get this done and make it very well.

Welcome to the forum :)
If that's from bura's handy work , all I can say is wow! :) you should email yangdu about that for pricing.
That blade would be a customize order, lacchu or rajkumar. Is a good choice .

awwweeee yeeeaaahhh she said they would do it! and for not much extra either!
so looks like im getting a custom 25" kobra with a d-guard for my first khuk :D

That's a sweet Bura piece! Absolutely gorgeous. I think you've made a wise choice in the 25" kobra (it should be a very stout blade at that length). One suggestion I was going to give you would be to opt for a slightly longer handle so that you have the option of swinging it either one or two-handed. But I suppose you've got your own customization. LOL.

Even though not warranted, I have no doubt that my 25" kobra could handle a day's worth of work in the field. The spine is very thick and the weight is forward balanced like a traditional khuk or an axe or a hammer. You'll feel it if it ever hits you with his business end.
