Howdy Folks!
First, let me apologize in advance for the poor photos....
This here's the first knife (short sword, actually) I've finished in the new year. It was a long time in the making,
and I'm grateful to the customer for being so patient with me. As you can see from the pictures, the blade is
leaf shaped, and the guard and pommel are both made from straight layer damascus. I tried twice to use clay
on the blade to get a hamon, but it didn't work out. I finally decided to forget about the hamon, and harden it
without clay. That didn't work either, because now it has a "natural hamon".
The first pommel I made for it had a bad weld, so I had to make another one.
Anyway, here's the specs:
Steel: 1055, forged from a railroad spring clip thingy...
Hardness: lower to mid 50's RC
Blade length: 14-1/8"
Total length: 20"
Blade thickness: 1/4"
Handle material: Desert Ironwood
Here's a rather bad picture showing the sweeping grind lines:
Here's a very bad picture showing the hamon:
Thanks for looking, and I hope you all had a great New Years! I did.
