I know, I know... No full tang, no heavy duty, no 'pro knife', etc... don't bore me with the 'serious survival knives' matter.

The purpose of this knife is to have something more than a rubbish 420j2 replica.
A knife that CUTS very well, and LOOKS more true to the movie than official replicas, nothing else.
I use knives to cut, not to lift hevy heights, so the hollow handle is not a problem.
This is why I took a cheap rubbish replica, and I ordered a knifesmith to change the blade with a D2 one.
He did the blade MORE similar to the one used in the movie, because ALL official replicas has a wrong blade design (why? no one knows).
Who knows what I am talking about, will immediatly notice the difference between the sawback sported in official replicas and the one used in the movie: my knife is right... The others are not.
Keeping the official replica handle and compass, I spared many money (I spent only 500 eur to have this knife done).

Now I have a knife that is REALLY similar to the one used in my very favourite movie, with the most beautiful fantasy sawback I have ever seen.
D2 steel, as every one say, gives it a REALLY strong edge. I cut a lot with this knife, steel looks new and unused, never had to sharp it.

It looks good....500euro is still a healthy chunk of change, by today's rates it's $643.00. It might be that you could have found a maker to do it for you for that price, possibly not. Bead blasted D2 is somewhat more of a rust magnet than satin finish....154cpm might have been a better call.

Hi Steven

I am italian, here in Italy the market for handmade knives is very little and costs are high. Trust me, there is no pleasure in saying how much I paid it :(
A full handmade knife costs even a little more than that (using the replica handle, I spared another 100/200eur).
I used D2 steel because was the steel used for the original one (and good to my cutting purposes), and so the finish, but you are right. I now think that another steel with satin finish probably would have been even more good looking and with less rust risk.

I bought this knife also to write an article on an italian magazine, regarding the story of first blood knife and its legacy with Randall18 (and so the legacy between macVsog real knives and Rambo character). The article told also about the effects of Rambo movies on knife industry , and to show the difference between various models (movie one, replica one, and the knives Lile did right after the movie, with one tooth less, and why).
Even knife lovers have to admit it had quite an impact... And that Randall/Lile hollow handles were a little better than the way I did my one ;)

I like your knife :-) I recently bought one just like that from BSK made of 5160. He said I can do anything with that knife. But I probably will not and at some point i will sell it :D

Really beautiful creature!
Don't mind hollow handle knife 'enemies'... I know BSK knives: your blade isn't screwed to the handle (my one is... :(
Your knife is almost solid as a full tang one.
Nice buy... Keep the Rambo legend going on!

Hello guys! I have 2 Handmade First Blood knives...1 made by Canadian Master Knifemaker Bill Schiller and made with a 440C steel blade and guard and a 416 stainless steel handle and endcap.

The other one is made by yet Another well known knifemaker, Mr. Ray Matton. Now Schiller is the one who taught Ray how to make knives!! That one has a D2 steel blade and guard and I believe a 420 Stainless Steel handle and endcap...Might be 416 Stainless steel. Both have the 14 serrations and raker teeth!

My Matton FB knife is the very Last knife that Ray will probably ever make as he quit making knives. It also won a recognition contest as One Of The Best First Blood Knives Ever Made!

The Schiller, made in 1992 I think, costed $850. It is the Only one in existence that Bill Schiller made. My Ray Matton knife was made in 2014. It costed $1,300!!

With Ray not making knives anymore and having only made a slight few First Blood movie knives, this one is probably considered Rare, just as is the Schiller First Blood knife!

just an fyi;
generally in this forum, it's accepted practice to revive long dead threads only if something of value is added, ie; photos

Hi guys Im waiting on a D2 first blood knife and was wandering if D2 has any issues over time with the matte finish on the fb knife?
Cheers
