Hey Everybody........
Just got back from my friend Wallace Fennell's hunting camp in South Carolina ....Wallace is the oldest friend I have in the cutlery industry and a mentor in all things hunting.......We have hunted bear in Alaska and North Carolina, dove and pigeon in Argentina and deer in SOUTH CAROLINA many times.......Wallace is the most experienced hunter of my acquaintance {he bagged his six hundredth buck but this year) and I have learned a whole great big bunch from him and he is one of the finest of companions in any setting......A really good time.......The first night was a couple of steaks and good wine with the even better company of young Will Fennell.....Will was new products chief for Camillus and is a long time friend and has helped me in many ways over many years and is truly good a man to run the woods with.......Will is a really having fun with the new 6.8 SPC cartridge which he is using in one of the new Wilson Combat AR platforms (drool).....Lovely Gun btw......Wallace showed up the next morning and we spent a relaxing day waiting for the very estimable Bill Adams to show up.....Bill knows more about Sheffield Bowies than just about anybody in THIS universe and is a fine raconteur and a huntin' fool of vast experience.....We feasted on fresh venison tenderloin coddled in butter and port, washed down with a little Malbec and dessert was a fine conversation washed down with a little more Malbec.........The following afternoon Wallace and I sat a stand and I took a very nice White Tail at about 95 pounds and Wallace tested out the Mod 15 tweener .butchering it out.........Wallace pronounced it "Plenty sharp, feels good in the hand and plenty strong enough to dis joint the animal".......(I got crappy pics partly because of the light but mostly because I couldn't get Wallace to slow down) ........From Wallace I took this as effusive praise(he grew up with Blackie and Michael Collins and sold knives for Benchmark, Gerber and Camillus and and has lost count of the number of animals he has processed decades ago.....The next day we went over into the sand hill area of South Carolina to hunt hogs and had a fine time but, brother hog stayed away and I spent the afternoon glassing the woods and mostly watching birds.....Nice day with a good view........The following day we shot a round of sporting clays and the last night we had a dinner with another couple of veterans of the Argentina hunts.....Another grand evening with great folks..........
The four days were extremely enjoyable and I was both relieved and gratified to get the "Wallace Seal of Approval"on the "15" .......I wish you all could have shared the good times ........
All Best......
