I got my first Boker yesterday - a Subcom with green handle and black blade combo-edge. I have heard a lot of great things about the Subcom but this is the first one I have handled myself. I see now why there are so many fans out there - this is a very nice knife, especially for the low price. The handle is a great design and offers exceptional grip for such a small knife. The quality is excellent and the knife feels very solid.
I intend to use this knife pretty hard, so I broke it in by trimming some green branches on a bush near my parking space. It worked very well, and I appreciated the serrations for this task. I also used the knife to open some packages and cut some cardboard - it was very nice cutting through the cardboard. However, I think the Wharcom would be an even better choice for opening packages or letters - maybe I'll have to get that one too!
Afterward I used a DMT coarse stone to make sure I had a 30 degree back bevel on the PE and then sharpened on the Sharpmaker. I also used the Spdyerco 701 Profile set to touch up the serrations. I was very pleased with how easy the knife was to sharpen.
All in all, I really like the Subcom a lot. I have been using smaller knives more often lately, and I am really impressed by the cutting power of this small Subcom - that handle is a great design that allows a lot of grip.
Now I am thinking about getting a Trance...
