First Bone Handled Scrade-How to clean?

this is a very good question.
concerning knives which i plan to use and not keep "as is" for the collector status, i use a rag with paint thinner (not acetone) and wipe the bone scales to remove any real or imagined "grease" (hand, automotive, deer guts, etc.), then wipe it dry, then submerse whole knife(which has been fully cleaned) into a jar of mineral oil, for at least 24 hours, then remove and wipe off all the oil that i can.
i do this because i am unaware that mineral oil cleans.
i too would like to hear what others do and comments on my method. roland
