Let me try this again...

This is my first double-grind. It didn't want to become a knife, I had to drag it along kicking and screaming. In the end, though, I am pretty happy. The handle profile is a bit wider than I have been doing because I thought I was going to lose some of the edge of the stag if I went any thinner. It is still comfortable, though, and I just love that stag. My standards are there: ATS-34, 416 stainless hardware, and hand rubbed satin finish.

Wow, Dogman! How do you do that? All of your blades that I have seen are sweet, but that one takes the cake! The stag looks very nice, too. I just started making my own stuff from 0-1 and hand files and I hope my hundredth knife can look halfway as good as yours do! Keep posting the pics!

Nice work. Looks really nice.
Whats the overall length? From the pictures it looks pretty big to carry around in a boot sheath. But then I don't have any room to talk because my legs are so long I could pull off carrying one of Jerry's swords as a boot knife

That is a really, really nice looking knife. Very smooth lines, solid/tight fit and looks like a very well done satin finish.

Very nice.

Dogman,

Very nice. I know what you mean about the kicking and screaming. I am working on a double edged fighter. I am doing way more hand sanding than I wanted to get it right.

Nice job. I don't happen to like stag, but the workmanship is excellent. If I did, and double-edged knives weren't a no-no around here, and I actually had money, I would be asking "how much".

Very very nice. Keep this up and you could go right up there with the other big names. What are the spec's as far as size?

Thanks for the flattering comments, guys. I am sure that I am like a lot of you and my flaw detector goes off the scale everytime I look at one of my own knives. The pictures hide a lot. I look at your knives and I am like, WOW! There is inspiration galore in all of the custom maker forums.

I remember something Tom had mentioned in a post far back about how if you think the stag is thin enough, it still isn't. That is definitely a true statement. I kept thinking I was going to lose my edges.

I am like you Brett, I get to a certain point while grinding and I just have to quit and start hand sanding. It is like one or two more passes with the 220 belt and I will have a nice smooth blade to clean up or one more pass and I ruin the whole thing. Right now, I am doing the hand work, but I go farther and farther on the grinder every time.

This knife was #8. Blade length is just shy of 4 3/4 inches and OAL is 9 1/2. All the credit goes to Mike Smith, who is showing me how to do things the right way. Give me about 3 months or so and I will have my first folder done.

This knife will be availble at the Blade show this weekend for $175. I will be wearing a black polo shirt with 3/20th Special Forces Group emblem on the breast - not that you will find me in the sea of people.
