This was my first attempt (just a couple days ago) at a traditional style japanese knife with clay temper. It is 1060 steel, 1/8" thick and 6 1/4" long overall. Weighs in at 2 oz.

It was great fun getting back to the forge and plain steels to try this. Hope to do a whole lot more of this kind of thing. Take care all

Beautiful stuff, Gary…I really like the direction your work’s heading. I’ll probably be contacting you soon about another project

Beautiful Gary. My favorite makers are those who try branching out and doing new things. Glad it worked out so well for you.

First attempt huh? You would never know it. That ia a very nice temper line. I hope you plan on doing more of these.

I can't make out what the menuki is, but I very much like what I see.

Keith.

That's a great knife. I can't wait to place my first order for one of your knives. I really like the cord wrapped handle work.

To all;

Thanks for all the compliments and encouragement. Makes me want to run out to the shop and build bunches of 'em.

Getting in front of the forge again has got my fever really up. I have plans now for some cable damascus billets treated this way to. If my friend will let me near his 25 lb Little Giant I can back into doing some smithing again.

Keith.. Thank you sir. The menuki is a little tiger. It is mass produced and silver plate to help keep the price down. But sterling menukis can be had also.

Thanks again everybody.
