I finally had to see what all the hoopla was about so I bought one of the Buck Strider 889 (brown) models and it delivered today. I know this is a "low end" model but I gotta say its built like a tank. Its got a decent edge and the blade locks up really solid for a liner lock. Seems like a great EDC knife for the $40 I paid for it.

I just couldnt spring for one of the $300 models or a ZT since I just bought two Scrapyard DM's and a new Glock. Its going into my EDC rotation with my Spydies, Benchmade and SOGs.

Anyone else have an opinion on these?

$40 was a pretty good deal!! :thumbup::thumbup:

Welcome to the Buck forum! Pull up a chair, sit a spell. Dave will be along soon to pass the jar around. :D

I bought one also.....It IS a workhorse!!! I have carried it everyday since I got it. I paid $45.00. The edge was not like my spydies, but I was able to put a nice edge on it. It is so thick and strong.......I feel like I could use it as a prybar. I liked it so much, I purchased the ATS-34 version with the BOS heat treatment. It is outstanding also.....especially for the price of $79.00. It is also a plus to me that it is made in the U.S.A. I would definitely recommend this knife to anyone who wants to carry a knife they can use HARD and not drop alot of coin, or worry about losing it.

Take care, Mike Arnold

I have allways chased 112s myself but Buck Tac knives like the Strider are a better self defence choice.......Im waiting for a 651 pig sticker [13' oal ] as my first Tac Buck...I allmost bought a trainer [blunt tip,non-sharpened ] a few months ago. Good choice on the Strider!

EH...Let me tell ya, I did what you did...had to see what all the Buck Strider yak was about. I put it off for awhile...110 snob. But I finally ordered a 890TX and then a 889SBMF.

They're like cockroaches. They probably stand a nuke and definitely a tank rolling over it.

Now that I think about it, I need to take a family picture of my Buck Striders together. Perhaps I'll do that tomorrow.

Congrats on the purchase of a great knife and welcome.
