I received my first Bura yesterday; a 15" Sirupati. You can really see the fine finishing of the handle, bolster, etc. Up to this point I have been handling 18" blades by Kumar and Shanker. It's hard to believe the difference in weight and few inches can make. This blade feels like a feather when compared with the others. I am in a small quandry; the handle is shorter than the others and feels much different. My hand fits, but fills the entire handle area including a small part of the bolster. I wonder if anyone with far more experience than I have can tell me what the ergonomic repercussions may be down the road? Is it safe to use or do I need more of a grip? I kind of feel that it may come down to personal preference.

Just as an afterthougtht: do Kumar and Shanker make the largest handles? Thanks for the quick service UB; you are great to work with.

I have one of the smallest hands of the forumites so this may not apply. Try putting your thumb on the angled part of the bolster. Besides giving more handspace, it also helps prevent the blade from rotating on impact.

Easier than reshaping the handle.

I'm lazy.

if that ain't enuf, then put the pointer finger around the bolster on the other side. Very secure grip, bight take a sec to get used to tho.

I'll try out both suggestions as soon as I get home tonight. Thanks.
