Hello gentlemen,

I've had a lot of hard use knives over the past five years. My current favorites are my Daniel winkler belt knife and field knife. I'm looking at getting my first busse. I'm looking for around a five inch blade. Do any of you have any suggestions?

Thanks Andy

Hi Andy! Welcome to the madness :thumbup::thumbup: but, RUN, run while you still can - these things get addictive!!!! :D

Well... BOSS Jack all the way - perfect usable size (about 6" of usable edge), not too crazy thick or tall, while still remaining bombproof - icing on the cake is that you can get it direct from www.bussecombat.com all made up to your liking! Best $267+ you'll ever spend and one of the best Busses yet - I'm on my third!

Heres a BJ pic for you - the bottom two - one has a choil, one does not:

Around a 5" blade? The SAR 5 is a good choice (some like it, some don't, I'm a fan), the Muk, Boss Streets (4" blade), but for a 6" the Boss Jack is a winner.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

BATAC ;)

I'll back the recommendation from Jaxx and Rob - the BATAC will serve you well.
Here is one of my favorites.

make sure you look for a production Boss Jack. (much thinner grind) or an LE boss jack (even thinner stock), unless you are looking for a real abuser knife to beat. The Prototype sure had a heavy thick grind on the edge.

The Btac felt great in my hand! Especially the thinner versions.

I had a BATAC with a standard size handle on it, felt awful in my hand. And it's size to thickness ratio was way off, .25" thick stock belongs on choppers afaic, so I traded it. Boss Jack or a Swamp Rat HRLM are both good knives and they are still in production.
