First Case Knife

I was in town earlier today and came across a Case Sod Buster Jr on sale for $10 at a local store. Needless to say, it came home with me and is my first ever Case knife. It has a tiny bit of rust inside the nail nick, but I can clean that up with no trouble and the blade is just a touch off center (barely noticeable). Only other hit I can give it is it wasn't quite as sharp as I would've liked out of the box. It was sharp enough, just not up to my standards. Other than that, it's a great knife to have hanging out in my pocket when I don't want to pull my other EDC blade out (generally my Emerson Mini Commander - gets odd looks from people). Any suggestions on future Case knives?

Congrats! I'm not a collector, so I can't speculate on which other Case knives to buy. But, I will say this: I've never held a Case knife that didn't feel comfortable in my hand. Perhaps that's because they don't have a clip that makes them feel awkward, or perhaps it's because the have just the right amount of rear weight that just seems to make them settle in your grasp. Dunno, but they all feel great to me.:)

It's hard to suggest a next Case because there's so many different patterns and handle materials to choose from, but I'd suggest one in CV steel. It's not a supersteel, it won't cut through thousands of strands of manilla rope or slabs of cardboard, but it's very easy to sharpen and takes a nasty sharp edge. Let the patina develop naturally, or stick the blade(s) in an apple or potato and force the patina along. There's a simple joy to be found in an honest pocket knife in carbon steel.

A Case mini trapper would be my suggestion.

Welcome to the traditional world.
You'll never leave.

That's a great deal. Case really impressed me with the Sway Back Jack in Chesnut bone, and Chrome Vanadium. Another one of my personal favorites is the 62131 Amber Bone CV Canoe. Really great EDC knife.
