I'm looking for a suggestion for a case knife. I don't want it to be to expensive, but I'm open to all kinds of designs!

I've decided that once I get enough spending cash I'm going to purchase a Case Swayback Jack in chestnut bone as my first Case.

If you want an even more expensive option, I would really look at the very classic Case Sodbuster and the quintessential Case peanut (I'd go ten more bucks to get a bone handle or a yellow plastic/delrin handle).

The people who seem to know the most about traditionals claim that the Swayback Jack is one of, if not the, nicest knife Case makes. You can't go wrong with a cheaper Stockman, though. Browse the traditional forums a little if you're interested in a Case.

The SBJ is a great knife. The only problem is that it's so nice that it's likely that every Case you buy after that will likely be a disappointment. Unless you only buy Bose models, or go vintage.

My favourites are:

Swayback Jack stainless or cv, very nice bone handles on these and the fit is excellent.

Large Stockman in cv Amber Bone

Slimline Trapper single bolster version. Slim&very handy in the pocket, great for fruits, snacks etc.

Mini Trapper (not that small,3.5" just fine for the pocket) with Wharncliffe blade&Clip.

Mini Copperlock. Good slim lockback with a decent blade.

Pen-Knife anther slim stowaway, much prefer this to the Peanut whose handle is too short for my not large hands! Only comes in yellow delrin though.

Quite a few eh? There are many, many more to check out. Drop by the Traditional Forum, then you'll get bitten by the GEC bug......

My first Case was an amber bone texas jack. I really like the patina that the CV blades have acquired.

Best made knife by Case in at least 35 years so that is what I would go for.
