I got a Spartan delivered yesterday, my first Cold Steel in many years. Last one I bought was a 1st gen Recon Tanto....and I used to be a huge Cold Steel fan, even met Lynn at a gun show around 1983 and sported a, I (heart) Cold Steel on my truck for many years. Have probably owned 20 of their knives over the years.
I'll be honest.....I had the opinion that the CS line was getting cheesy....also, AUS-8A was a turnoff. Well I ordered a Spartan out of curiosity and to check out the Tri-Ad lock. This is a well made beast, near perfect grind, and top quality F&F. I was also curious about the Grivory grips, thinking they were a cheap alternative to Zytel. I am really impressed with Grivory and after looking up info on it, it seems to be a fantastic working knife handle material.
Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised that Cold Steel has maintained a quality product after all these years. I would like to see the blade steel offered in other types. VG-10 or one of the CPM varieties would be awesome.
