So I ordered my first CRK knife ever a little while ago, a new umnumzaan. I am very excited and hope it's as great as I have heard for years now. I have not owned but a couple Knives in or above the $425 range, a Jake hoback kwaiback which I carry daily, and a custom 1 of 1 AdV Tactical Butcher, which are both very different from what Chris reeve does. Was it a mistake getting the umnumzaan instead of the sebenza 21 for my first CRK? A few people have told me that already...but the umnumzaan is just so much more pleasant to look at lol

I guess most folks are partial to the 21. The Umnumzaan is a quiet knife. You don't hear that distinct thump when the thumb lugs hit the frame. The pivot is adjustable, you can tighten it down too much. You can back off of it to make it smoother. You have to learn to deploy it correctly or you'll have a sore thumb. You have to push straight up instead of a out/arc motion. It is a wonderful knife.
I carry one and rotate a 25 for work.
Most get a 21 first, but there's certainly nothing absurd have an Umnumzaan for your first CRK.
 
Congrats on the umnumzaan....!! The biggest thing with the umnumzaan is thats it WAY different than the sebenza, wether it be the P, Regular, 21. It opens differently. Rather than the wide rainbow arch of the sebenza like most framelocks employ, you push towards the blade on the zaan to open it. This is what people immediately complain about. It is a Different knife and was never meant to be like the sebenza. With all the different features working well for CRK, they implemented them to the sebenza 25. For me though, the 21 is the closest thing we have to a REAL sebenza as its as close to the original as we can get. As much as I like the 25 ( took awhile to grow on me ), I would still take a 21 over it......And I would certainly take a large regular sebenza over ANY folder ever made.
 
A Zaan is a great way to start. I hope you enjoy it after you learn to operate it!

All this talk about Regulars makes me want to go out and find one just to see what the fuss is about.
 
Excellent choice! One of my favorite! Doesn't matter what you have first, you'll eventually gave them all. [emoji6]
 
Thanks everyone! I am super excited, literally can't wait...as usual I'm sure everyone understands. Although I could really use the money I spent on it now, I have a feeling I won't be able to get rid of it when I receive it. And yeah, I will probably end up with a sebenza 21, large and small if I had to guess. I won't try to fight it

Congrats on the new Umnumzaan! I don't think it's a mistake if its the one that calls to you. Choices are highly subjective to user preferences and most here do seem to prefer the 21.. Personally, I prefer the Umnumzaan, but have many 21's too.

Look around for pics...Lone_Wolfe has a few more than pictured.. I am sure she is trying not to scare the newbies :)
