I'm going to get my first CS hawk to try out modifying them. I want it to be a worker though and was curious how suited the trail hawk is to chopping. Should I upgrade to the riflemen hawk for real chopping and does it mod as well.

Any input I'd appreciate, especially from people with experience with one of or both of them.

The Riflemans hawk may chop better as it is heavier. Both of them chop decent, but out of the CS line, the Norse Hawk is the best chopper.

They all mod pretty much the same.

I use my Trailhawk in the yard. Limbed a bunch of pines, a cherry and maple with it. I had worked on the edge with my water stones and it was awesome, until I hit a rock chopping a sapling.

The more edge you have the better. The Trail Hawk has the least amount of edge, the Norse the most. If you want the poll hammer, the rifleman is the way to go for most edge with a hammer.
