First custom anything Ive owned beside one I've made and its a hawk!

I picked up this beauty from this forum and SOOOO happy about my decision. I'm a hobbyist knife maker but always had a thing for spike hawks and when I saw this one for sale I jumped on it. Butchesforge made this hawk and after I bought it I asked him where he got the maple cause Id love to make a matching knife. I was surprised when he sent me some beautiful pieces of curly maple also! This hawk feels soo good in the hand I have a hard time putting it down.

This wood comes alive! Its weird cause it has that 3d effect Ive only seen in stabalized highly figured wood before.

Very nice sheath that just completes this perfectly.

The glare on the handle makes it hard to see but he managed to make the sheath look almost exactly like the wood.

Love the rustic yet refeined and simple elegance look this has.

Now I know this would make a great chopper but Ive decided to display this after I build a stand or display cabinet. I want to show off the artistic side of blacksmithing that seems to be lost to machine produced crap more and more. To me this also highlights the hawk in its simple design beauty too. I just hope I can make a matching knife worthy to be along side of this!:D:thumbup:
 
Nice score William. I too am a fan of Butch's work. I've been wanting one of his hawks for quite some time.

Ive actually decided to make a very nice display cabinet. Id like to do a few period pieces in years to come. I did make a decent karambit recently that Ill be putting in there since there is some nice history behind that type of knife. Your axe will be in the same display to show off blacksmithing and hawks and their history. I want people to see and ask questions. One day when they think of a hawk it will be of this and not some cold steel or tatical machine made hawk. One day Id like to be able to add other pieces that reflect on craftmanship and certain periods like maybe a japanese style tanto or katana etc. A old d gaurd style bowie. Heh a display and history lesson in one lol. Thank you so much for your time and effort in this axe and if you ever need anything I can help you with feel free to ask!

That is a beautiful beautiful set up there. My compliments to butchesforge (by the way, love the Wes Studi avatar! big fan :thumbup: ) and to the proud new owner. I'm jealous :grumpy: :p
 
I am not a hawk guy myself, more an axe nut case, but man that looks like a very nice piece overall, and it sounds like you are pleased, which is the most important part. Nice work no doubt, quality, time, and much effort. Wish I had those skills.......Well done!
 
Nice score CBR, Butch makes beautiful hawks, his spike hawks are amazing, so clean. Congrats.

That's a real beauty, I am a spike hawk guy as well, and that is indeed some nice wood too. Make sure you get some tips from the maker on how he got that finish,
it could end up looking a lot different for your knife. (though still nice I am sure. ;))
I bet you could get him to make a matching sheath for it to. What kind of blade do you have in mind for the match?
 
Very nice hawk, if your married try to pay a little attention to your wife and set your precious down once in a while. Or they could team up against you.

When im fondling precious she doesnt really say anything... Dunno why... lol
