I decided that I wanted a christmas break project, and I found a Cold Steel SRK blank for cheap. Picked that up and some micarta handles.

After weeks of waiting, I started the project....

(sorry i didnt get pics of carving the micarta, it was a pain and took me a loooooong time. It also didnt turn out quite the way I wanted it to, but I still like it.)

after some oil - (it was really uneven before oil, but the pics make it look better. now after the oil, the pics dont do it justice)

Still more sanding and oil... maybe. Also might wrap the middle in paracord to add to the grip. Then comes the sheath

Just a thought. But is that blade fully hardened? You might want to check before you slap that micarta on. It doesnt look like it is from the pics.

What did you use to put the bevels the blade?

I do not want to deminish the fact that you are doing great work. I just dont want you do destroy a great looking knife.

The guy I bought it from said that it has the factory heat treatment, as he got it from the Camillus factory before it closed down. I dont have the capability to do heat treat myself, so if it isn't fully done, it will just be a wall hanger. Besides, the blank only cost me $12...

The bevels were started with a block of foam that had a 5 degree angle on it, but I ended up free handing the rest of it. It could have turned out better, but for my first try, I think I did alright.
