This is going to a 17 year old kid (son of a friend of a friend) who is just getting into knives. He drew me up a sketch of what he wanted me to make. I ended up tweaking it quite a bit but it still has the materials and basic features that he wanted like the integral guard, index finger groove, thumb ramp, clip point, rounded butt. The blade is 1095, 5/32" stock, 5 1/8" long and overall length is 10 1/8". The handle is macassar ebony which he chose after much thought. I'll go make a sheath for it tonight. Thanks for looking.

Looks good. Can you post a pic of the sheath too? I am not sure I have ever seen one of yours, I have seen all your folder pics, but no Sheath.

I don't know how much tweaking you did but it looks like an excellent design. Nice fit and finish too, as usual.

Some lucky kid is off to a great start with customs - kinda setting a high bar, though! Where do you go from a Laconico....another one, I guess!

He's going to like that. Just four years ago all he had was a SAK, now he has a few good folders and now this....I have done a good job of corrupting him.

Very classy looking handle material... Did you put a sealer on it?
Knife is well designed as well.

Yes, you've probably corrupted him. Thanks for donating the wood for the handle.

Thanks Hankins. lambertiana let him choose from his stash of wood or any color micarta or G10 I could get and he chose this macassar ebony. At first I didn't think it would go well with the style of knife but it turned out pretty nice. I sealed it with about 5 coats of super glue then a coat of tru-oil to give it a nice light shine.

Very nice Ray, as usual. I love the blade finish. Gotta love those scotchbrite belts! (Thanks for that tip btw. My knives are looking alot better now.)

Lucky kid, that reminds me a lot of a BK-7. He is getting off on the right foot for sure...

Man he sure started off with a bang as far as customs and makers go. That looks great Ray.

I delivered this knife today, and he is thrilled with it. And after seeing this and my small collection of Laconico knives, his father thinks there may be a Laconico knife in his future, too.

Ray, that's another beauty. I really like that one a lot, as you know I like my knives to have either guards or bolsters, this one looks just right I don't know if it's the thumb ramp but it has a nice flow to it if you know what I mean. I guess I will have to put one of those on my want's list!!

I'm going with the guys that think you may have ruined him. Maybe forever!

When I was his age (early 1970s) I was so proud of my Buck 119, I didn't know it got any better than that for an American made knife. I still have it, but it appreciate it more for its utility value than anything else.

That is really a gorgeous, and looks tremendously functional. I am glad I didn't start with the bar that high.....

Sorta..... :D OK..... maybe not!

Very nice work. What a lucky kid.

Robert
