Well I just ordered my second production Emerson and all these custom pics are making me a bit woosy :D

I guess I'm wondering what all of you Custom Suspects got as your first custom and why...

Cheers!

Speaking for myself, I ordered my first Emerson custom (a CQC6) well before there were production Emersons, even BM CQC7s.

I liked the design (modified Tanto, pointed butt and pocket clip) and was just getting into custom knives.

I bought my first one, a CQC6, way before production models existed, and I don't remember if I had a Benchmade CQC7 before that, or bought it after.

'Welcome' to the forum :)

I saw a BM CQC7 ad. in a gun magazine in 1991. Learnt more about the co-designer Ernest Emerson. Finally decided to get a 'CQC6' because it is a classic and a signature piece which I believe started the tactical folder era.(IMHO). It has been my EDC for the past 5 years.

:D

The scales on a CQC6 are made of micata - this is fabric set in resin - hence the nice grain pattern in the handle material.

I first came across the Emerson line in the mid 1990s - it was love at first site on the tanto blade. I finally bought my first CQC6 in 1999.

Ed

ah...i see...yours looked a little different from the usual canvas micarta....cool knife...nice six..;)

Thank you! :) BTW the micarta is pretty dirty, used ...thats why the dark appearance I have recently cleaned it up, back to the original 'green' micarta.(Miss the dirty dark color...it'll get dirty soon from all the use it gets ;) )

My first Emerson custom was a Leftie CQC-6
Which I ordered in 1997 this Thanksgiving will be the 5yr anniversary of my order so i'm keeping my fingers crossed

I got a CQC-6 as my first custom Emerson also. It's the "classic". Can't go wrong with one. I REALLY wanted a CQC-8, but they are not easily found these days...

My first custom Emerson was the CQC6. Now I have the following:

CQC5
CQC6
2 CQC8s
CQC9
2 ES1Ms

and I still want more :D

I picked up the phone to order an "8" in 1997-
In those days I had just gotten settled back into the US, was newly living w/ a woman & was working a crappy job- the price tag was "too high" & I wussed out. Considering what I've since spent on knives that I've lost interest in and/or no longer own- it would have been a bargain- never mind the value on the secondary market.
