First D-guard attempt

Just finished a first try at a D-guard. It works and all, but it came out not looking like what I hoped. I'm guessing the problem was keeping everything taught during the passes:

Sorry for the meh looking pics. How do you hogs keep 'em thick and tight like they're often shown?
 
You are correct. I don't think you tightened it after each pass. That is the key.
 
Wow.Looks cool. I think you need to push the "weave" up tight every time you pass threw if your looking for the traditional take on it. I practiced on a smaller blade so as not to have so much to untie every time I messed up. Seems you had the right idea for the first 4-5 passes though. Also i tried to keep the cord as flat as possible for uniformity. Still...looks cool.
