Well...I finally got around to getting a D2 blade ground and ready for heat treat.

After using aluminium quench plated the blade tested at 65 rc so thats a good sighn :)

Well see what she tests after tempering

I have only air cooled D2. I didn't know u could plate quench it.

Let us know the results after tempering.

is it normal to have the rainbow effect on the blade once its quenched teh first time?

I usually put a small piece of paper towel in with the blade and then wrap it in foil when I used to heat treat -keeps oxygen out of the foil pack. ;)

i just wrap real tight and dont worry cause you have to grind more any how just so long as i dont have any black scale on the blade i go with ok
ther were times that i wanted to leave the heat coloring on the blade just cause it looked cool but not on both sides :thumbdn:

Here is where she is at right now. A machine brushed finish and I left the handle area the color on the last Temper.

RC'd at a solid 60 now. Thats good enough for me :)

To get a good satin machine finish flat grinding I think I need to loose the flat and take the grins all the way up but not break the spine. This will do for now since this one will be mine I think :) Drilled the blue G-10 so its now cought up with the others in the shop.

Nice looking Blade Brian
the rainbow will buff off,, But I always regrind after the heattreat it makes for a
sharper look IMO :) just in case it's warped just a hair

Nice looking blade.

I have not used air cooling alloys....when they are wrapped in foil, do they gain scale, or are they clean?.
