THE 2001 CATALOG LISTS THE 970 AS BUCK'S FIRST DAGGER. HOWEVER, I HAVE FOUND A HARLEY DAVIDSON COMMEMORATIVE DAGGER MADE BY BUCK, FOR SALE ON EBAY (AUCTION 1130220820). WHAT'S THE STORY ?

The 970 is Buck's first regular production dagger. There are many daggers that were made in the Buck Custom Shop including the Harley ones. They are tang stamped Buck Custom/USA. Not including the Harley Davidson daggers there were approximately 375 daggers made in the custom shop. I am not sure how many HD daggers were made.

John has it correct. We offered a few variations of a dagger in the custom shop back when it was in operation. We also did a few limited edition daggers, such as the Harley Davidson you saw on Ebay. The 970 is the first dagger, since Buck incorporated in 1961, offered as a production model.
