First Day of the Year 2015 With My Spyderco Roadie

Today, I went to my favorite oyster bar in East Ocean View with a friend, and brought my Spyderco Roadie. Normally, when I dine, I bring my Case Doctor's knife as my go to cutlery for dining outside the home...this time, it was just for beer and oysters...raw oysters and plenty of them. Typically, the oysters are served with the abductor muscle completely severed, but more often than not, I find myself having to resort to a spoon to dig out and separate the meat from the shell; not this time, the Roadie came through with flying colors. Perfectly sized, with a perfectly shaped blade, it was a pleasure not being able to just grab a shell and suck out the meat, instead, I used this little guy to cut out and scoop/pierce the muscle and just eat away. The bartender/owner took notice of this beautiful little tool, and said he had to have one. We came to an agreement, we would pay for the beers, the oysters would be on the house, and I would gift him the Roadie. We spent a few hours at this wonderful testosterone-laden bay front retreat, favored by the locals, boaters, fisherman, and savvy sailors from Norfolk Naval Station, and after about 5 dozen or so oysters, and beaucoup brewski's, we decided it was time to go home, at which point I called my daughter to come pick us up since we wanted the pleasure of being "chauffeured" home. Most women/wives will never really understand why men of all cultures, professions, and differing socio-ecomomic backgrounds can get together in one place and while away several hours eating raw oysters, drinking beer and spirits, and commiserating about life's sometime injustices, family issues, military service, the state of our union....yes, it was a great day this 1st one of the year. Oh, I just realized that my first knife purchase of this year 2015 was/is a Spyderco Personal Oyster Dining folder. As a side note, my main man, the Owner of the establishment sent us on our way with a gift...the tab was on the house.

I did...read the last line..."Oh, I just realized that my first knife purchase of this year 2015 was/is a Spyderco Personal Oyster Dining folder.";)

Thanks for the story. Made me laugh.
I just ordered a Roadie earlier this evening. Maybe I'll have to start taking up oyster eating. Since it has a rounded blade tip, not too much worry about slipping outta the shell and impaling the palm of the hand. Sounds like you may not have even felt an impalement as the day continued.

My coworker brought his to work today. My impressions are very positive. Super tight slip joint with a half stop and good build quality. The FRN felt more like G10 and the blade is stout! I love N690 steel, very tough and takes a screaming sharp edge. Reminds me of my Haddock, just a lot smaller. I will be looking for one of these in the exchange.

This is a great story, it's always a good feeling to run across other folks that can appreciate knives, especially something as unique as the roadie. Gonna pick one up in orange someday.

Norfolk has changed a good bit for the better. Were you here w/ the Navy? "Shit City" (as I've heard it called) is better now.

Just picked one up - cool little knife!
