I have never killed a deer with a bow. I can't even recall where the first shot was placed. I know I hit him quartering toward and he dropped.... Tried to turn and I sent the 2nd one through his back and punched a hole in the middle if his chest. It's very brushy and my adrenaline was pumping and I had a small hole in trees to thread. I'm proud of the 2.5 year old 5 point as I popped my cherry and hopefully remember more if the next exciting event :)

115 or 120 lb deer. Not small but not big but in freezer :)

He has bigger brothers so my doe will get bred enough.

I wanted a doe this morning but I like the spot I got and didn't expect him.

Sweet ! Congrats on your kill...it will keep you fed for a while  What is your Bow & Arrow set-up ?

I have a 60lb pull Diamond 2008 "The Rock". I traded for it about 4 months or so back. It came with carbon xpress arrows. I used fixed bladed Muzzy 100 grain 3 bladed heads. I have 4 bladed ones as well but in practice did better with the 3 bladed ones.

Now I need more arrows and blades!!! :)

Brian , use a better steel an HT it properly so you won't chip the edge like that !! I thought
we trained you better than that !!
Enjoy it !!

Wish they made Carbon Blades like these!!! Wouldn't be all busted up :)

Congratulations on the deer. Every deer killed with a bow is a special accomplishment. There is nothing like the sound of letting that arrow fly in a quiet woods. It's so hard to explain, but it sure gets the adrenaline flowing!

Although it has been quite a few years, I remember my first bow kill on a deer quite well. Congratulations! This reminds me that it is time for me to get my butchering and jerky making supplies out and prepare for the venison to come!

congrats B!! now savor the addiction bc it only gets worse.. that up close and personnal ordeal is a level on its own.. glad you got one bud.

btw if its not too late. take his tarsal glands off his legs. the dark thick patches of fur. use rubber gloves so you do not get you scent on the area. cut back 2-3inches around the dark fur.. take the area and put it in a plastic sandwich bag and keep it in the freezer when you are not using it. you can use this as a drag and or cover/ attractant scent. since the deer was taken in your area the deer will not be alerted by a strange deer scent.. this tactic is a killer.. esp with rutting bucks or does that are coming into estrous.. i encourage you to try this.

Thanks for the info!! Next time I'll get those glands :)

Also the wind was perfect and I was zeroed in on ambushing a trail that the does travel 20 yards to my right and the wind was moving at an angle away from that trail head.

The buck walked in still up wind in the opposite direction from where I was expecting the does to be.

Also it's difficult to have all those aspects line up and then be clear of brush to take a bow shot so I was on it!!!!

Congrats Brian:thumbup: Looks like a good shot dude.

I took a couple does this past Sat. I didn't get any pics as it was way too hot. I had to get them to precessing in a hurry.

Nothin like taking them with a bow eh:thumbup:

Nick:)

this is what makes bowhunting so exciting and hard. you have to have everything pretty lined up just to get a good clean kill shot. good job man.

keep in mind as well, bucks more times than not will take a different path than does

Might have found my Carbon heads!!

"The Rock" is a nice bow ! A friend of mine I shoot 3-D with shot one last 3-D season. As for the Muzzy's....They are good Broadheads & you can get replacemnet blades & tips ! Another Fixedblade I like is the Magnu Stinger's,these fly just like fieldpoints ! & the NAP ThunderHeads are also good ! This year I'm trying RocketAerohead by TrophyRidge the 75g Miniblaster. We will see. Congrats again on the Buck 'Ol Bud !
