Got this guy at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning. 3x2 blacktail, good body mass, in the Northern part of the state. Shot with .300 win mag. Field dressed him with my Fallkniven F2, which worked spectacular and is still sharp as a razor. A good ending to a hard hunting season (archery and rifle).

Nice looking 3x2 ! Whats his weight ?

Frank

Thanks guys. It's only my second deer (first was with bow). I've been hog hunting for about 15 years, so getting a nice deer is a huge bonus for me. My buddies and I were pondering over the weight. We agreed that it was probably 125 lbs. on the hoof, which is for me, on the bigger side of my blacktail take. A good 3-1/2 year old.

That is a nice animal. Good eating size. The Jeep looks pretty good as well.

Congratulations on a nice buck. The 300 Winchester mag is my favorite cartridge.I have killed 7 caribou with it.Not one took another step after being hit by it.

Field dressed weight is usually 79% of the live weight. I read that somewhere yrs ago. Field & Stream or one of those type mags.--KV

Thanks for the compliments. The jeep is a '59 cj-5. It makes for a great hunting rig and is almost better than my ATV off road. Amazing what it goes up and down.

Nice Buck, You guys up there sure do start hunting early.

yeah, the coastal zone starts in mid July for archery and mid august for most of the remaining zones. It's always very hot and light from 5:30 am to past 9:00 pm which makes for very long days, dinner at 11 pm, and maybe 4-5 hours of sleep if we're lucky. It would be nice if it was shifted a couple of months for a later start, but I sort of understand the season timing. We already have our first mini cold front up north this weekend with rain and cool down. I wish I had gone this weekend, as I'm sure the deer movement is heavy with the first rain.
