I have a dentists appt. at 10am today.I haven't seen a dentist since I was 17 yrs old.Partly because I couldn't afford it,but mostly cause I'm scared to death!:oI'm afraid he's gonna look in my mouth & faint!

I looked in the mirror & there's a few molars that are black, but one in particular has been bothering me for years. It's broken & the nerve's exposed.Everytime it got infected,I'd get some strong antibiotics until it cleared up.I gotta get this thing ripped out of me.It's been causing ear aches & extreme pain for too long.

There are very few things in this world that scare the hell out a me.The dentist is one of them.I hope he knocks me out or gases me or something.

Now I'm gonna eat some breakfast. It'll probably be my last pain free meal in awhile.

Wish me luck:)

Take Care,

Good luck. I also went for 20 or more years without going to the dentist. When he looked in my mouth he didn't faint - he told his assistant to call his wife and tell her to order the larger in-ground pool.

Nah! He'll look in your mouth and say, 'kaching!'

Just keep or get silver fillings fixed with silver fillings. Don't let em talk you into tooth colored fillings in your molars. They don't last like the silver. You'll be back in there in two years to get those tooth colored ones replaced if you are like the majority of people out there.

last time the dentist put in me 3 doses of anesthetic stuff, and lifted me of the chair while pulling the little bastard :D
it went off eventually, after 20 minutes...
good luck man :D

I don't think having a meal just before heavy dental work is a great idea. :barf:

Don't panic, though. Just be sure to talk it over with the dentist before he starts. Dentists are well aware of people's fears and they have a variety of painkillers to help. Relax and it hurts a lot less.

If you are going to have alot of work done at once, particularly with extractions go to a dentist that offers a full general anesthetic to knock you out, like they do in hospitals for surgery. It costs more, but its worth it. The only drawback is that here anyways, they will not let you drive after a general anesthetic, so you will need to make an arrangement for a ride home.

Dentists are no fun, but living with the pain by avoiding the dentist is worse.

I just got back.I actually went to an oral surgeon. He looked in my mouth & said they're not that bad, just cigarette & coffee stains.
I didn't eat before I went,like I said I would.
They stuck a needle in my arm & it seemed like I blinked my eyes & they were done.
He just took out the problem, broken tooth. It all went smooth, cause I was knocked out.I have to follow up next Mon.
He did recommend I see a regular dentist for a good cleaning, which I intend on doing ASAP,now that I have the insurance.

I guess I hyped it up,because of my dental-phobia,but it wasn't that bad.

Thanks for your support everyone.:)

[Off topic] BTW,There was a county cop in the office & I asked him if this was legal to carry.I pulled out my little Boker Sub-Claw & explained that I use it to cut rope & other cordage.
He didn't say it was illegal, but said he wouldn't recommend carrying it:rolleyes:.It's a good thing I didn't pull out my BM14205!:eek:He probably would've confiscated(Stole) it on the spot!I gotta get the hell out of Wuss-Jersey:grumpy::thumbdn:

God help us all if Obama gets in office!

Sorry for the mini rant.I should've put it elswhere.:o

It's not like it used to be. I had some bad experiences as a kid but they've improved their methods a lot since then.

Yea I know Cougar. For instance, you remember when you had to hold those little cards in your mouth(about a dozen times) to do X-Rays?This time,he just put a lead vest on me,had me stand up,bite down on this plastic thing, then this thing just went around my head once & I was done.It took like 1 minute!

Take a pair of pliers with ya and as he says open your mouth grab him by the balls with the pliers and tell him: WE ARE GOING TO BE GENTLE TO EACH OTHER.....RIGHT! Hey it works for me:D

JT, I'm like you, I don't visit the dentist unless I have to. I quit going because I got sick of being treated like a kid and talked down to! Every dentist I went to was a jerk except one and the good one is in Knoxville, Tn. Oh yeah, his tech was a total dip! She cleaned my teeth with that air gun deely and was killing me and just kept saying "Oh, it doesn't hurt at all, you're just being a pain"! I should a smacked her up side the head!
I don't take very good care of myself but I'm a chronic slosher and that's kept my teeth healthy! 50 years old and still got em all! :D

Dentists go weak in the knees when dudes like you call. The least he'll do is invite you on his boat you pay for! lol Just don't eat the cotton candy and suckers he offers you! :)

I have to be the most "fraidy-cat" on the planet when it comes to going to the dentist, but somehow it never does seem to be as bad as I expect after it's all done.

It's the next morning.I gotta say, there's no pain at all.It just feels weird, like a big void where the tooth used to be.I was spitting out blood for a good 5 hrs(reminded me of my old boxing days;)).I'm off the gauze now that it stopped bleeding.I been rinsing a lot with saltwater, supposed to toughen up the gums.
Last night I had two PB&J sandwiches for dinner, cause I didn't want to do any damage.

:thumbup:Thanks for the support again everyone & reminding me that even the toughest, badass guys(even glockman!) are still afraid of the dentist.:D

I'm terrified of dentists. I only go when something awful is going on that I can't ignore anymore. I've had good dentists (including the one my mother used to work for- I even mowed his lawn as a kid) and one spectacularly bad one in Germany we used to refer to as "Dr. Mengele". He was a family friend of my employer & came "highly recommended". He worked in your mouth like it was a strip mine. A good friend went to him for an extraction & was back 2 weeks later w/ a raging infection- he left tooth splinters in my friend's gum & told him that it was chicken bone. My friend had been a vegetarian for about 3 years at that point.

C'mon... man up. Tom Hanks used an ice skate and a rock.

Seriously... go for the gas man! Relax... nappy time... no prob.

Wishing you well and good luck!
