Hello!
I am interested in getting my first Emerson. I want the wave deployment. I also want something kind of stout. Im going to put it through the paces with rope/cardboard/zip ties, tubing, net, and plastic on a daily basis.
7, 8, and the 15 all look right up my alley. But I am open to variations! I have never held one before so I dont know what to expect.

As soon as I posted my response I saw that. I'm on an iPhone (and driving). My bad.

If you want utility I'd suggest something with a spearpoint blade. The CQC-7AW sounds like it fits your requirements.

My first Emerson was a horseman. I think it makes a good first Emerson because it is relatively cheap and it works well for utility.

My mini commander was my first and impressed the hell out of me. So much so that about 4 hours after playing with it I ordered a standard commander.

Skip the mini commander in my opinion. I don't need the recurve, it has sat in a sleeve since the day I got it.

IMHO- if it's the wave feature the interests you there's always the Spyderco Endura or Delica wave...I liked the endura 4 Emerson more than the mini commander but again my opinion.

Spydercos will save u some dough, too

OP, what will you be using it for?

I don't care for the 8. I think the Journeyman is a better package and has the long narrow blade the 8 does.

That said, I think you should go for one of these three:

1)Commander
2) CQC-15
3) CQC-7

Commander is my choice out of the 3.

I love my mini cqc-15 for EDC and at work. Size is perfect, lockup is excellent, and it holds a good working edge. I never thought I would like a tanto blade, but after giving it a shot I have found that I like it alot.
