Well my first Emerson is on the way. I got a mini commander that should be here by the weekend. Now i just have to wait for it. I finally decided after a month or two of trying to figure out what i wanted and the mini just called to me. Hopefully i did good:cool:

I handled all the Emersons at their tables at the 2011 NYCKS, and decided on the CQC-10 as my first Emerson. They're all comfortable to hold despite all the different-looking handles, some more so than others. Then you just have to decide on the blade shape that speaks to you, and on some models, the size. In the end, it's just the beginning for many knifenuts.

Hope you like your Emerson! The only Emerson i bought I sold. I just didnt think it was anything special. I know they dont pride themselves in fit and finish, they take pride in their functionality and design. Maybe I just didnt have the right model for me? I think im gonna give Emerson another try now! They have quite the following so they must be doing something right! Think I just found my knife! The Mini Commander BT. My only concern is that it doesnt have a choil. I like choils so I can choke up on knives to do fine cutting! But i ll give her a try! Happy 2013 everyone!!

Good for you!!
Now for the hardest part, the waiting. I absolutely love my new mini commander, and I bet you will too.

Nice choice on your first Emerson. I have the regular commander and briefly owned a mini com. Both are excellent and the mini is a bit more friendly to the general public.

Question for gooey... How's the grip on the 10? Some have said the little "point" in the middle of the handle is uncomfortable. I really like the blade shape on it though. The oval hole is ok as well.

I did not have a great 2012, but found myself "waking up" last week, shaking off the lingering depression. No need to buy a new knife to celebrate, I have so many sitting around to put back in the old EDC cycle. :D

It's back to work for the big Commander, satin plain edge blade. My hand is broad enough I generally prefer larger knives. It was a tossup, with the CQC-12 looking like it's next in line.

Now if I really truly need to spend money to be happy, do ya think the Gentleman Jim will do?

For my hands, the grip is perfect. The point is where it should be, although it might be a different experience for others. I wear a size 13 1/2 ring, btw.

One of the most comfortable Emersons for most is probably the 7, and while the size of the handle is just right even for large hands, I don't find my grip on it is as secure as on the CQC-10.

@ Esav, the GJ is nice, larger than I had expected. I'm trying to choose between that or the Journeyman as my next Emerson.

I think that you would like the Gentleman Jim, Esav. The 'Jim' is relatively light and sufficiently different from other Emersons to make it a must have. I quite enjoy mine.

If a Emerson newbie could jump in, I'm the kind of collector that buys one of each brand (maybe more if I like it), and I've been looking at Emerson. The only reason I've held off is that they have so many sub-types, I'm not sure what is what. And I don't want to start with the wave as I don't think it will work with my life.

So here is my question: What model has a 3" blade (legal reasons) and non-wave feature? I think the A-100 is a choice, but would like to know if there are others. I'm retired military, so I don't need the whole tacticool, mall ninja image, just a good down-to-earth light/moderate EDC knife. Which I'll mainly fondle and cut up boxes with, if truth be told.

Thoughts or recommendations are most appreciated. Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, just tell me and I'll go away.

PS: I really like the blade style of the light brown model above.

Thats a cqc7. Excellent blade on that knife. Im new to emerson also so not real sure which models are available with no wafe feature. Im sure you could grind the wave off of any model pretty easily though. Have fun choosing!

I like the waveless 7. What is the full name please (disregard - it is a CQC-7), and blade length if you know it. That could be my first one. It looks just like I want it to look. I'm in Luuuv.

Oh, thanks so much for getting back to me. I'm excited already. Now I gotta budget for it. s allowed?

The brown one is a 7V (V-grind), while the black one is a waveless 7 (full chisel).

The knife is a CQC-7B / BT and the specs are as follows:

Overall Length 8.0 in.
Blade Length 3.3 in.
Handle Length 4.65 in.
Blade Thickness .125 in.
Hardness 57-59 RC
Weight 3.8 oz.

You should also know that you could send it in to Emerson (if you didn't wish to do it yourself) and have the wave removed. And if i'm not too late, I think there is a CQC14 Snubby FS in the Exchange (de-waved).

Thanks, but I gotta save some money, probably in a month I'll be able to buy a knife. Fighting an addiction ain't easy.
