I finally got around to getting a Emerson. I really wanted to handle one before buying and had to wait for a local shop to get some Ravens in for me to look at. I bought one with the clip point blade and black handle. I love the handle on this knife, very comfortable but a bit flimsy. I took one of the scales off and was very suprised at how light it was. Overall it is a very good knife but I'd like to see a screwed in stop pin to beef up the handle a little bit. Also the black Ti coating on the blade is very prone to scratching and seems to come off very easily. No big deal but just affects the looks. Also the ball detent for the liner lock is a little bit out and doesn't work causing the blade not to sit in the center of the handle when closed. I will fix this my self by enlarging the hole.
I notice that the Commander has only a couple of screws holding it together also at the rear of the handle too. Is it subject to flex problems also? I'd love to get a Commander but they cost heaps to get sent out here and I'd like to be Very Confident that I'd get a good one for the money paid.
Overall the Raven is a good little knife and thanks to you all for answering my queries in the past and showing me the light.

Peter

Peter, i agree about the raven, i looked at one and decided it was way to flimsy for me. The commander has big, chunky handle scales, it's much stronger than the raven. It's a good decision if you get it. Try mail order, knives are expensive down here as well, it will probawbly reduce the cost substantially.

All knives are created equal, then i get my dirty big hands on them and the real fun begins.

Hey Peter,
You'd be hard pressed to find a better knife for the money than a Commander.
One of the new ones w/ Hard Chrome finish are real tough. Black T does come off easy.
I don't know the situation where you live,
but I would try to find one at a Knife show if they have them. Or better yet find a dealer who seams cool enough to pick one out for you that seems trustworthy.
The deployment of the blade is second to none
w/ the WAVE feature. They are substantially beefier than the RAVEN.
IMHO
