I'm looking for a few suggestions for a first emerson knife. I would love to try them all out and see which one fit best but there are just no dealers around me anywhere and I haven't been able to find any in person. I want something that I can carry wherever I go and use for general purpose, as a volunteer fireman/hazmat and for back-up to my Glock which I usually have on me.

I want a higher end, blue collar type knife that I can use for the rest of my life. I've looked all over their website but it's impossible for me to tell anything about them without holding some. Anyone have any suggestions for a model before I start drawing out of a hat to decide?

Everyone is going to have a favorite, but after handling a lot of different Emersons, the CQC-10 is hands down my favorite knife. Another very popular choice is the CQC-7.

Thanks, I'm looking for a suggestion for someone who wants one do it all knife. Kind of like, if you could only own one, what would you get.

Well, I just got my first one today.

It's a Commander Karambit and I really like it. I also had to order online.

I wanted a Karambit style handle but with a more useful day to day blade. As to your question, I plan on checking this blade out thoroughly for a while to make sure I'm happy with the quality and then I am going to likely just buy one more Emerson. The CQC-10.

Here are my reasons why I like the CQC-10 if you are only going to buy one:

-nice looking and functional spear point blade.
-I like the thumb hole for opening more than the thumb disc on other models. (Spyderco fan).
-From what I have seen and read, the -10 has very nice in the hand ergonomics. (you can tell by the look of the handle.)
-It's a good mid-size blade for EDC, as long as you don't prefer something very small and light.

That's my 2 cents.

Your best bet is to go to a knife store and handle some. Find out which handle suits you.

I own many folders, including high end folders. I choose the CQC-10 because I prefer round hole openers over disks and studs. Also I prefer the v-grind and most Emerson's are chisel grinds I believe.

My favorite is the Comrade. They are expensive and getting rather collectible. For every day use the CQC-10 is tough to beat. It is very easy to sharpen. Excellent handle. You wont clear the room when you open it, either

Trust me, there is nothing I would rather do. I would love to hold them and decide but there are no dealers around me. I called to ask and the closest ones are hours away and they couldn't verify if the places still carried them or not. I'm sure I will be happy with whatever I get but still, I don't have the budget for an arsenal of knives so I have to pick the best I can.

I would like a serrated version. I need that for my job. I'm liking the cqc 13 sfs, CQC 10 and cqc15 sfs.

Where are the best places to buy online?

Thanks for the input from everyone.

I'm assuming you are not in Canada since in your first post you had mentioned that you usually have your Glock on you.

However, for the sake of interest, this place is a great resource for online knife shopping north of the border. http://www.warriorsandwonders.com/Emerson_Knives?zenid=5eb41315a0fd543795e051c2252cd5a1

I'm not sure about online dealers in the U.S. Be very sure it's a reputable dealer though because there are Chinese made fakes out there.

Maybe check out some other brands that you can feel out in hand, and take the plunge on an Emerson once you get a chance to handle and examine one. Spyderco makes some models with the patented Emerson wave opener and they have very good quality.

Good luck.
