Received my first ESEE today, along with a non-ESEE sheath. It was a private sale on a different, gun-related forum:

Request for Information:

Would any of y'all be able to provide me with the hole spacing measurements on the ESEE belt clip plate? I'm thinking about ordering one, but I'd like to make sure the holes will line up with the sheath, if possible, before I order. Obviously, I'd need the side-to-side and the upper-to-lower center-to-center hole measurements.

I must say, I really like this knife. I have a Becker BK7, which I really like too, but I am still thinking of getting a BK2 as well. For sure there will be more ESEE knives in my future: an Izula or Izula II (likely one of each: one paracorded and one handled), an ESEE 4 and perhaps an ESEE 3 & ESEE 6 to round out the collection.

Thanks Sarge. I asked before I did some research. I was just on their site (ESEE's), and blew up the photo of the knife in a sheath to match the size of the actual knife (nicking myself with the point of the knife in the process :stung: ), and then held the sheath up to compare. No dice. So I'll likely just order the actually ESEE sheath if I don't modify something to fit the current sheath. The sheath itself is very nice (homemade kydex), but it does not include a way to attach it to belt. I just bought over 300 feet of paracord, so I have plenty to work with.

If you do decide to buy a sheath I would highly recommend getting the MOLLE back as well. I have a Laser Strike that came with the belt clip. It does work but I would like the knife to ride lower. I am going to get a MOLLE back for it.
I used to own an ESEE 6 with the MOLLE back and liked how it rode on my belt. I was also able to attach it to MOLLE webbing on my packs or vest.

I'll look into that as well. My pack is a large ALICE pack, so I don't have a MOLLE pack yet, but I could see investing in one eventually. Thanks again.

The stock ESEE-5 sheath is among the best of factory sheaths, anywhere. Not only is it very durable and well thought out, it has the ability to lock the knife in using a sliding nut (I think a BHK design).

^This right here. The Esee 5 sheath is one of the best on the market from a production company. I love the clip plate as well. I have several of the clip plates for other custom kydex sheaths. Just in case you need actual measurements I took these quick pics:

What distance apart are the 3 holes near the mouth of your sheath along one side? If they are 3/4" o.c. you may want to try this as an alternative to a new sheath:

Con-graduations on getting a fantastic knife. I highly suggest you round out your collection with at least the ESEE 3 or 4. They both come with an injected sheath, but you can still buy the production Kydex sheath for the 4, they are great EDCs. The sheath that you received with the ESEE 5 looks like a great para cord use sheath. I am highly biased towards the production sheath however. We produce several of the sheaths and the clip plates for ESEE.:)

I'd say if you have the ESEE 5 you really don't need the BK2.
(I know, "How often does 'need' really have anything to do with it?")
I vote you should get an Izula II next.
That and the 5, you'd be hard pressed to find something you couldn't handle.

Thanks Crabytab. Yeah, the stock clip plate won't work; the hole center on the sheath is a half inch wider than on the clip plate.

chiral.gromlin: That is pretty slick; I responded to your email requesting a price.

arskrg: The reason I went with the ESEE 5 over the Becker was threefold: warranty, micarta handle, and jimping on the spine. You're right, though, it's not "need" as much as it is want. I still have to get a Remora to go with my BK7, as well as the Ka-Bar USMC fighting knife (1217). I may or may not get the BK2. I may just hold out for a good deal on a used one. The Izula and Izula II, though, are on my short list.

When I bought the knife I assumed the sheath in the picture was the stock sheath, but after I sent payment I noticed that it was a handmade sheath-once I looked at it a little closer. I may still buy the stock sheath; it's not a bad idea to have more than one sheath: one on the belt, one on the pack. At least now I know I have plenty of options.

Thanks for your input everyone!

The clip plate will work on just about any small to mid size Kydex sheath. You may need to make the holes oval or drill new ones.
