Hey all..

I *used* to be a SOG Fan... but have dumped them all now on the Bay...

I have all Buck Folders at the mo...

Buck 112 x 2
Buck 110 x 3 (2 on the way)
Buck 444
Buck Tempest 296
Buck/Strider 882 (Bloody tank :))
Buck Alpha Dorado 271 (Bloody nice it is too)

So for a fixed blade Buck I am buying a Nighthawk 650 (again from Jim)

As a newbie to Bucks what do you guys think of a 650 first time fixed blade?

Its a done deal now... going to get it anyway. But would appreciate your thoughts on it.............

Cheers all

Mav

Hey Mav,

I've carried the Woodsman for years, for fixed blades I've got

102
105
119
120 - 70's
121 - 80's
124 - 70's
184 - 80's

And a couple of old combination Kabar's 4" blades, with a small hatchet, both with stacked leather handles.

Based on some reviews I just ordered a 655 ODX partial serrated blade for my next woods excursion... it's be a user fer sure.

Mav I would definately buy a nighthawk :D (especially a NIB all black one :D)
I have a 650 from Goose that I use and love, and just bought an unserrated 655, that I haven't had the chance to use yet.
So far I really like them. Great outdoors knife!

he he Jim :)

Its a done deal :D

Not that I will *ever* get to use it properly... unless the government is sacked and US style knife laws come into force.. I AM UP FOR THAT YAY! :D

But I have dumped all my SOGs... so I *need* a FB dont ya think?

102 is good. Its probably the knife that I use the most.
I got it at a cabelas, after staring at all the fancy hi-tech folders in the glass cases for about an hour I decided on a 102 fixed blade instead. fixed blades rock

Absolutely -- I have a handful of folders, IMO for serious work the fixed blades are the best (not wanting to start a thread war here :)

Any other Blade manufacturer then I would agree... but before making that statement you should try a Buck/Strider 882. That is one mother of a folder. Built like a tank and built to last what ever you wanna throw at it.

I have the 882 - ATS34 steel... sharpens well and holds a really nice edge and as stated a TANK of a knife

Mav :)

Don't get me wrong... I like folders and have a few. I've also got a buck strider 889OD coming my way. These are great for tactical and camp applications. For serious, really serious butchering, etc you cannot beat a fixed blade. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You will love the 889 :) Monster of a knife.

I agree with you totally. I have 3 classes of knife.

1 Never gets used... just admired.
2 Gets used for some serious normal duties
3 The knives that I dont care about gets abused till they break. They are generally the fixed blades. Wont be doing it to my 650 BTW.

I have a old divers knife which I use for the garden. Dont like it. Dont look nice even when it was new. But that gets used for some serious butchering of the back garden. Remember I am from the knife unfriendly UK.. so I cant go out and hunt like you lucky people.

I would not put any of the folders through what I do to that divers knife. Mainly cos I like them and I dont think that they would last up to it. Well I think the 882 would and laugh and ask for more :)

Mav: Congratulations on your Nighthawk purchase. It's a seriously cool looking, comfortable knife. And after watching the Nighthawk destruction test on YouTube I think it is the most rugged fixed blade for the price.

I hope to post a Nighthawk vs. 119 comparo when I get my replacement 655 from Joe.
