Just place an order for a production version from KSF and can't wait! I would love to find a custom in S35VN but I hear it's not easy. I'm not a huge tool steel fan. Sorry. While I love maintaining my blades, I'm a user more than a collector and don't want to have to worry near as much about rust. I know lots of folks love tool steel so no offense is meant. I've owned a lot of bushcraft style blades over the years so I'm excited to see how this thing fits my hand and functions in the field. I'll report back once I have it.

Congrats! I had a chance to handle the production BF for a bit and loved it. Of all the production models I've used over the years, it has to be the best, hands down. It's a cutter through and through with a beautifully thin edge. Have fun with it and post pics when you get it. :)

Have you seen the pass around thread about it? There were some fun reviews to check out.

Thanks guys! I have a feeling that after getting this in my hands, after seeing all the amazing FF knives out there, I'll get over my tool steel concern and end up jumping in with both feet and going broke! :)

Welcome!

Tool steel is a work steel. All the steels all have pros and cons depending on use and environment.

As a user and not a collector you may find an appreciation in the long history of a tool steel like O1 as a performer. Ask any woodworker, who uses sharpened tool steel edges albeit more frequently than the majority of knife users posting on a knife forum.

On a knife, the patina tells a story, making it unique and yours. A visable sign of use. Pretty cool imho. But if I was living full time on the OBX, that s35vn would sure be nice. That's a great profile you picked, nice choice. Congratulation and welcome again.

Congrats on the knife.

The steel type comes down to personal preference. Glad you found one that fits what you want.

Oh yeah, as you can tell by other threads and discussions - this forum likes pictures of FBF knives being used.
So remember - pics or it didn't happen :D

Welcome aboard.

Congrats man, I like the mid tech BF very much. I think where you are should be far enough from the coast that tool steel shouldn't be an issue. I am hung up on the CPM S35VN because I live in a rain forest and hit the coast every chance I get :)

I hear S35VN customs are rare as hen's teeth ;)

The production one is sweet as well :D

You will love this knife. I get to play with a lot of knives in the showroom and this one feels great in the hand.
