Wow, I'm going to be heat treating a piece of a large lumber mill saw blade to see how it comes out. I whacked off one of the teeth with my angle grinder and saw that it somewhat resembled a knife blade so I annealed it with a propane torch and decided to practice filing and sanding the piece.
Well hand filing and sanding to 120 grit actually went faster and better than I thought it would, the thing actually looks like a blade and even though it's just to throw away after I try to harden it I think the practice was worth the effort!
(What an effort though, if I don't get a belt grinder sometime my forearms are going to end up looking like Popeye's, hey maybe I can get L6 to tattoo me an anchor, "I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam! HeHeHeHe!")
Good night folks!-Silent

Results! Why, man,
I have gotten a lot of results.
I know several thousand
things that won't work.

Silent, post a pic when you're done.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

Filing blades is not as slow as you might think, and a GREAT upper body work out. You can really lean into the big 12-14 inch files and make 'em smoke!
