This one was a challenge. Again a request from a friend who wants a real using knife. Just a basic Scotchbrited finish on the blade. Not my favourite idea of the best handle colour etc, but it was the customer's request. I left a bit of grinding till after HT to reduce the warpage problem, but the blade just kept moving from side to side, while grinding, even after HT ! The handle is quite thin, but comfortable and will allow use with heavy gloves on. Because it is slab-sided, it is easy to index in the hand. The shape is based on my Lightfighter bowie knife.

Anyway, feedback appreciated. This is my first successfully executed fillet knife. Thanks. Jason.

Jason,

For a real using knife I think that it looks great. A real beauty. I'd love to have that in my tackle box next time I go fishing. The blue G10 is not so bad. I haven't noticed you using a lot of G10 before or perhaps I haven't been paying attention. How do you like working with G10?

Please tell me you are going to put a sleeve in the lanyard hole.

I love that colour! I get so tired of the Tactical stuff, this is like a breath of fresh air!

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. I found it required some different grinding techniques because of the thin blade - didn't behave the way I'd thought.

syme6079 - You're right, I use much more MIcarta - canvas and linen, rather than G10. Frankly G10 I find easier to grind and finish, but the glass fibre seems to cause a mild itching problem on the skin of my hands. Its not bad, but enough to make me think about it. I wear full safety gear but not gloves, while doing the hand finishing. G10 is also more expensive here...

Temper - lanyard tubing ? Done !! And yes, the colour - the customer wanted something that would be eye-catching. Ie.- hard to lose. I wondered about a bright red, but we thought blue would fit the theme better.

Thanks again. Jason.

Jason,
That is a beautiful piece! Nice clean work as usual. I am a fan. Keep up the great work.

Tom

Love it! Be kinda hard to lose that one by leaving it on an old treestump, wouldn't it? :)

Looks elegant and sweet. Should be able to do the job it is designed for quite admirably!
