Hello all, I did not see an introduction section so I'm going to place this here. I am a sugarcane and rice farmer in central Louisiana, as of a few months ago I have begun to delve into the practice of bladesmithing, on an amateur hobbyist level at best.
First I'm made a propane forge from a 20lb propane bottle, 2" of insawool and a coating of satanite. I put together a blown burner that seems to run well.

Here is my first knife, aside from a few railroad spike knives that I did a little learning with. It started out as a reclaimed chopper blade from our sugarcane harvester. I cut a rectangle blank with a plasma cutter and forged it down to shape. Quenched in motor oil and sweat, tempered in a camp oven. I have a 4"x36" belt grinder that kind works good enough for now. I took it to 220 grit on s belt then hand sanded it to 1500. The handle scales are Krinite Patriot with nickel silver pins.

Thanks for looking and thanks for the info available on this site.

Sent via telegraph with the same fingers I use to sip whiskey.

The finished product looks pretty dang cool. Hopefully you have more time to mess around with making blades.

Oh ya, you're screwed now. :D I look forward to seeing a machete designed/made/forged by a Louisiana rice and sugarcane farmer!

Well done 357. Louisiana has a number of distinguished makers, and you are off to a good start. Lafayette native here. Dozier (not Bob)
