I have decided to try my hand at a Slip joint folder, his will be my very first folding anything and im very excyted. first off i have a pattern from the knife i took apart so geomerty is ok. next i want to use 1/8" for blade and the liner is that ok. I was thinking about grinding down the middle of the liner so the bolsters are 1/8 and say the center is 1/16 so i can mount my jean micarta and it will be flush with the bolsters. just wondering if this will work, i like nickle silver but if droped it mars up and looks bad so everything being made from hardend o1 should do the trick. any tips i should know about going into this project?

ok its all cut out and now reddy for grinding. im still going with the 1/8 liner and im thinging about just putting the micarta over the liner and having ot completley cover the liner and not have any bolsters at all

1/8 liners are too thick, if you add the micarta over it the whole knife will become too thick and bulky. I use .050 stainless or titanium for liners. You can also use brass, copper, sterling silver, gold ect. You could solder the bolsters to the liners depending on what you choose for materials. You could also screw them down or make your first folder without bolsters and save yourself some of the headache.

I always make my springs strong and then thin them out as I build the knife to make the blades easier to open. If you make them too light to start with they could get even lighter when your done and not have enough tension for the knife to work properly.
