Well, I'm back from break with a new toy. I finished the Lynx kit from Jantz with a black linen Micarta handle. I love the blade style; it looks very nice and cuts even better. 440C rules! It can get shaving sharp, but it will still slice thru thick stuff. I got my genesis shaving sharp, but it didn't cut too well thru rope and stuff like that, but the 440C cut great! I had to grind the locking spring down so it was even with the liner and scale and still have some grinding left to do, but it looks pretty good. I have to finish sanding the bolster cuz it got some scratches in it from peining the pin. Oh well, it's a work knife. I kept the scales at a 60 grit finish because it stays lighter longer color wise and it has a much better grip than when I went to 220 then 600 then buffed it. I used 3/16" scales, so the handle is a little thick, but I sanded the front of the scale so it is the same thickness as the bolster and it thickens toward the back, so it really fills the hand. I was very pleased with the lockup. Very tight, no up down play and very little side to side, just enough for the blade to open and close smoothly. I didn't even use a spacer guage; I just peined slowly and checked it after each time. I went alittle too far, so I stuck a punch that was slightly larger than the blade near the lock and hit that a few times, so it opened the knife back up enough to work smoother. I has to sand some of the lock bar so it was smoother, but now it is very smooth, especially after putting some oil on it. I am thinking of putting a thumbstud on it to open it with one hand, anyone tried this? I will probably go with the one from texas knifemakers supply. All in all, it took about 3, maybe 4 hours to make the knife. I was very easy. the hardest part was making sure the scales were flush to the bolster when they were epoxying. The blade is a very decent size and would make a good everyday carry knife. I got a sheath by www.raineinc.com from a local military surplus store and it fits great. All in all, a very good, sharp, solid and easy to make folder that looks good. I have 2 or 3 people who want me to make them one now after seeing mine even before it was completely finished. Sorry, I dont have any pics of any of my stuff yet...no scanner.
