Here's a few scans of my most recent knife and my first real liner lock folder:

The stats are....Titanium frame .1" thick...Ti pocket clip..carbon fiber scales. Blade is 440C which I heat treated myself in a potter's kiln, no cryo quench however. OAL is 8 1/4" blade is 3 3/4".

There are a lot of things I am happy with on this knife but naturally I tend to dwell on the imperfect grinds, residual heat treat scale on the tang area, etc... I had the misfortune of drilling the first ball detent hole slightly oversized so I had to drill another right next to it. It works great but you can see the corresponding divot in the tang peeking out from the scale when it's open. Live and learn I guess. I'll do better next time.

Well Peter it looks great to me. I like everyone else, always see the little things I did wrong, but no one else mentions them. I know some really rude people who would if they saw them. There's no such thing as a perfect knife unless your magic like Bruce or Bruce or Tom.

I think it's really nice. I like the filework. Well done and it is not all that easy on thin material. Shape and balance are good and workmanship, despite what you see, is first rate. A++

Excellent first folder Peter!!! I think you're doing the same thing I'm doing, making the pivot too close to the end of the frame so the detent shows when the knife is open. That really stands out on a damascus blade. Looks like an excellent design! Alot of folders have sharp angles on the frame that can be uncomfortable in the hand and the pocket. I like the way your's has smooth curves with no sharp corners. Looks like the lock tab hits the blade just right, about centerline so theres room for breaking in. On my first liner lock I goofed and kept adlusting the lock tab till it was all the way across the blade. Needless to say after a couple spine whacks it no longer engages the blade completely. Still keeps it from closing up on you though.Very nice work Peter!!

I like it alot!!

I have one in the planning stage I'll start on it right after I cut about 8 cord of fire wood. I'm shooting for serviceable yours is well beyond that.

nice work for a first try, now that you have it figured out let's see what you can do.:D

Looks great to me, Peter. I imagine we are all our own worst critics about stuff other's wouldn't even notice. Can't wait to see more!:)

Hey, thanks for all the nice words and encouragement! Despite my inital self critical post I am actually very happy with this knife. There's something so satisfying about telling people about my knifemaking activities and then whipping this thing out. The responses have been fun to see and have ranged from enthusiastic to shrinking away, just as I expected.

The knife has gotten a lot of use already as I took it to work with me all week and the edge has held up and performed very well. I was actually kind of surprised. I'm definitely going to start another one, maybe as soon as tomorrow.

I think that is an excellent result for a first folder. Liner locks have to be so precisely measured, it must be very difficult to even come close to a good lockup.

I like the thickness of your liners! Those are stout! They also look polished, which is a nice change. So many are just dull looking steel, tho usually titanium is given more care. For unknown reasons, am assuming yours are steel. Anyhow, I like them and the filework.

Keep it up!

I wish that I could make one of those!!!!!!
I don't think I would call mine perfect,in fact I know I wouldn't.
Bruce

Bugs, the liners are thick Titanium that has been polished and scotchbrite scratched to give them a pewter look. I tried coloring them with heat but didn't like the way they looked against the carbon fiber. You just couldn't see the liners next to the dark material.

Laurence and Bruce, you guys could make just about anything as far as I can see!

Excellent first folder Peter. Stay after it.
I especially like the treatment of the pocket clip. ld
