I attended the Mesquite Spirit of Steel show, visited with quite a few makers, and was very impressed. I had really, one goal and that was to see some forged knives.
I saw quite a few, most were way out the price I was wanting to spend and the ones I did see were already sold, no big deal, I now had a good idea of what to look for from the samples I had seen. One Maker I really enjoyed was Mike Williams His work is very nice and was in my price range, (if you can find one).
Well, I had seen a very nice Mike Williams Forged fighter on-line at one of the internet custom knife dealers I had even mentioned it to Mike when I spoke to him, he gave it a nod as far the dealers asking price.
The Knife is a Forged Fighter made from 1084 blade length about 4" with a total overall of 8" 3/8. It has an Amboynia wood handle ( I think)and nickel silver guard. It came with what I thought was a left-hand sheath but after a very nice conversation with Kenny Rowe I was informed this type of sheath clipped inside a pocket kinda like the clip on a folder, very nice sheath.
I really like the knife it seems too be much more versatile than just a fighter. I was thinking about changing the edge from convex to a beveled edge I really can't see scratching the blade face everytime I need to sharpen it hope this does not take away from the performance of the blade. Anyway, I now know I like Forged Knives hope to have more.

You made a darn good choice. Mike's a good friend of mine, and has been one of my two primary teachers. He's a heck of a bladesmith, and fine person. I'm glad we're starting to see more of his work here.

Mike the Okie????

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

What a way to start into forged blades. Starting with the purchase of a Mastersmith's work is a great start.

Mike does awesome work, and is even a nicer person yet.

Thanks for sharing! :)

That's a real nice knife - I was very tempted by that one myself. The size and shape make for a very versatile package. Amboynia burl is also a very beautiful choice of wood. Enjoy!

Roger

PS - does anybody know the cerrect spelling of amboynia - ambonia - ambonya - amboinya....?

Thanks, everyone that has responed and Thanks Nifrand for posting the picture.
Of course were are really complimenting the maker, Mr. Mike Williams and rightly so, both he and his wife are very friendly I even thought for a moment, when I was at the Spirit of Steel show, that these Guy's and Gal's were actually having fun, just being around their fellow makers, entering the various competitions and just talking to everyone. I had a great time which is most of the reason I decided to buy this knife. Oh yeah! if anyone can tell me what is the best method to touch up the edge of this knife without loosing the convex grind I would be greatly appreciative.

Mike
