I have wanted to have a go at this for a while now and finally did. Forged from 1084 with an oak handle. Basicly I mesured out a piece of 1084 forged it into a U stuck another piece in the center of the U and forge welded it together leaving a 1 inch hole for the handle. Then I forged it to shape brine quenched it and put on a handle. Its not pretty nor is it really finished but it works. As soon as it was done I took it into the woods to build myself a deer blind. Then I let my wife use it to hack at some swamp brush in the horse pasture.
I was not sure what all the hawk rage was about. Now I think I know Its lighter faster and handier than an axe and much more efective than any hatchet I have used.
