Well, after several weeks, and 4 pieces of steel scrapped, I've finally gotten a Bilton ready for the heat treat. As soon as I figure out how to resize the pics, I will attach them.
I've come to the conclusion that if I was to start forging my own knives, a power hammer would be a good investment. Ohh!, my aching muscles! Next knife will be made by the stock removal method.
First pic by it's self:

Next to the HI Bilton used for specs:

Next project, handle and bolster.

Well, after an accomplishment like that it is safe to say you know something about khuks! Pretty impressive.

I'll be staying tuned to see how you make the bolster for this thing.

The pics I've posted represent more time than I like to admit to. I just wish that I'd had access to a camera during the actual forging. Or maybe not. :D You should have seen this piece before it hit the grinder! UGLY. The grinder removed the ugly tho. Once finished, it will go to my daughter, as I've put lots of work into this one. Now for the tempering, and handle. I hope that I've made the tang long enough. It's a bit shorter than a HI bilton tang. It will be pinned. I will attempt to put an elk antler handle on it. I've never worked with antler, so I will do another blade I've been working on, first. This one is a stock removal blade. Started as an industrial file.

A bowl of rice for the new kami.
:D

I ground a throwing knife from an industrial "hacksaw" blade
(3/16-in thick) when I was a teen.

:)

What method are you going to use to temper it? The traditional water and kettle like the kamis or some newfangled method?

Very nice.

Nice work Seabee! What is that Seabee motto? Please correct me if I'm way off base. "The difficult we do immediately. The impossible takes a little longer"

Way to go bud,

Steve

ferguson, that's one version. The other: We the few, have been doing so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.:D :D

For your first piece of forged work that looks great. I don't care how much ugly the grinder took off. Great work and good luck with it.
