Part 1

Hey Guys…

Just thought I’d show you a few pictures of my first forged knife…

Knife steel is 1050 which started out life as a block about 6” long about 3/8” thick.

Wally’s Air hammer and 20 ton press made short work of the job and it ended up being a 12” bar about ¼” thick..

Wally did the stretching and straightening of the initial bar…Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of the initial Pounding.. All of the pictures were of the second night…

Hey Guys...

Stephen

Thanks..

Don't know what I'm doing,, but it's fun..
Kind of like the first time you have Sex !! :)

Just gotta know when to pull it out before it gets to hot!! LOL

Keith..

Yaa don't know how I lucked out on that..
He moved from Ottawa to my neck of the woods, six roads over(like a 4 minute drive)

I'm just happy he allows me in his shop, although somehow I got stuck with Pest Removal duties!! :)

JT..

Yaa it's had some use before.. Still works well..

I got a big honkin chunk of pipe from a friend ,enough to make two big forges and I'm going to hit him up for a smaller Square piece for a couple smaller forges we are going to make... Just have to get some parts,, find an anvil somewhere and a hammer and we are set to go..

Very nice in-progress shots and it's great to learn from one of the greats!

I hope to see more....

You're very lucky to have a teacher like Wally Hayes :) Normally when my teacher mentions pest removal it means it's time for me to go :p

Sandals? I thought I was bad forging in shorts :)

Hey Guys..

Thanks....

Did some grinding on it last night and it's ready for HT now...
Clayed up the spine,so hopefully it'll have a nice temper line..
Going to HT it this afternoon....

I'm Quite Excited about the whole thing...I'm starting to understand why you Heat and Beat guys do what you do...

Will
