I am not new to the world of "traditional" knives, as I carried a Buck 301 for years before switching to an Eskabar, and then to a Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight (an Alox Cadet tags along every day also). Despite my recent transgressions, most of my small stable of knives are of the traditional variety. However, this GEC is my first "high end" traditional knife.

I have been browsing this forum for about a month now, and have really enjoyed reading jackknife's stories (and the ensuing discussion) and relating them to my own upbringing. The culture of this forum is very friendly and vibrant. All of this culminated in a moment of weakness, where I gave in and ordered this:

#48 Trapper in Stag, serialized. I think the bug has already taken hold. :(

What a great bug to be bitten by StraightSix  You made an excellent purchase, just a great lookin knife ;)

Paul

I like it, very nice knife, like most all GECs. I think you'll get a good deal of mileage out of it. Those scales are impressive.

You chose a really nice one, that's for sure. I am fond of the trapper pattern myself. Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forum.
Nice moment of weakness ! Just don't let them happen too close together and you'll probably be alright. Your selection shows that you appreciate excellence in design and materials. Much better, to me, than getting six Rough Riders to start off your foray (though there's nothing wrong with that approach, either).

The stag is nice and I hope you enjoy this knife. I also hope that you continue to view GEC slip joints as "high end". Canal Street is another "high end" maker. I love trappers!

This is what happens when you hang around the Traditional forum. You get GEC on the brain. It is a disease I tell you!

Very nice! Welcome to the Traditional Forum. This is definetely a great group here. It's become a part of my daily routine to check in a couple times a day and see whats happening. The members here are sort of like an extended family after awhile.

Congrats on your #48, it's beautiful. Northfield pocket knives are outstanding quality for a production knife. I own several and they bring me much enjoyment. I'm proud to own and carry them.

Nice choice StraightSix; the 48 can't be beat in any of it's configurations.

Good looking knife. Congrats!

Congrats you sure picked a beauty! Oh & good luck with your bank account from here on out. I went from 1 GEC to around 10 in a year lol.

KnifeBug: Sure, you can prise me off if you want to. Perhaps a new knife will help.
I'm fairly a fairly tenacious little bug.
A Toothpick maybe? or a fancy new Barlow.Yes that would help.Couldn't hurt anyway. C'marn y'know you want one.
